Trump this.

I suppose Alvin Bragg is moving with the Stormy Daniels case first because his prosecutors think it will be easiest to prove to a jury. (With Michael Cohen as a star witness, I'm not sure the case would be so easy, but at least it doesn't seem to be legally complex.)
I once heard a prosecutor who tried organized crime cases say about witnesses with criminal histories, "I, the prosecutor, didn't pick this witness. The defendant picked him.".

The implication is that, if you think this witness is a liar, a cheat or a criminal, keep in mind that the defendant is the one who chose to associate with him... and as the saying goes, "Birds of a feather".

The problem with a bunch of liars is that they are a bunch of liars. Without corroboration from somewhere else, the jury has to be led to guess correctly.

On the flip side, Cohen has already gone to jail, so there's no reason for him to keep lying - not that that has ever stopped a liar. Still, he has nothing left to lose if he crucifies the toad. Which could also be used to impeach him.

BTW I have no doubt Cohen crucified the toad, the defense will say that it's a liar's vendetta. That puts everything right back to which liar to trust. Thankfully there's so much circumstantial evidence that even if there is no corroboration that the toad gave the orders, it can easily be inferred.

On the TV the jabbering heads are saying that they drug Hope Hicks in because she had neglected to mention previously that she was on the calls and has corroboration. If that is accurate, I can't see how the toad squirms away.

Americans want to have 20 different brands of chicken soup on the supermarket shelf. It's no wonder that we can't pick competent politicians- we tend to go for the label. We pick them by party and we favor the politicians who say ridiculous nonsense like they're going to fix Washington, or they're going to act like a pig castrator or they're going shoot guns until Washington changes or they're going "hope" things until they change.

No one wants chicken soup that is "a disrupter". We'd be better off picking chicken soup by the way it tastes and not by the way the label looks or the price tag on the shelf.

The same could be said about the way we elect politicians. I'm ready for boring, competent polticians who avoid cable news shows/social media/orange spray tans.

^ All of this.

This cult of celebrity around performative sociopaths and pyschopaths has gone on long enough.

And it is fed by the electronic media just desperate for sensation and a populace that for some bizarre reason feels it needs to live through reality shows, 24 hour news and rage.

I kinda disagree with that premise. I grew up among the horde, and they've been having this simmering vindictive, mean-spirited pity party for a long time. Partly because there have been solid gains by minorities and curiously enough women, and partly because they feel that everyone but them gets to be "special." That is what elected the toad. Media sensationalization and social media's absence of decency played a part, maybe even "celebrity" culture, but that isn't at the core of this, nor is it the cause. It goes far deeper.

The biggest motivator goes right back to our racism problem. The Fascist tendency that's always been under control is erupting now because the White people who feel slighted (it certainly isn't all of us) - and let's be very clear that what they feel is UNFAIR, is them having to BE fair to everyone else; are trying to abandon Democracy in favor of forcing all of us back into the past where they could hate with impunity, and got to feel superior by right of birth. Everyone else has to be put in their place, violently if necessary, and sometimes preferably.

I joke about it a lot, but this is a very serious problem. They aren't going to stop, they can't be reasoned with, they aren't going back, and they aren't going to come to their senses.

The violence has only begun. With every election perceived as stolen, they see proof that they are being persecuted and cheated and the only response must be war.

That is not hyperbole. That is the monster the right has built.

BTW what's going on in Florida should have us all freaking the fuck out, but we aren't, why does anyone think that might be?

^^^Until we have campaign finance reform we have no chance.

Pitting everyone against each other helps the greedy bastards get even richer.

I've been warning for years, but most think it is hyperbole and I just get dismissed. Even here. I bet that is what happens again.

People do not understand that the thought patterns and mindset being cultivated, the methods and tactics employed, the groundwork being laid, the propaganda being advertised, are all the same as 1930s Germany even if the exact details are not identical. But some details are pretty freaking close. And it will all lead to the same end.

The examples are everywhere now. But one example is setting the pattern for the acceptability and desirability of putting migrants on buses and shipping them to other states, plants the thought and lays the precedent in the minds of their followers, for the acceptability and desirability of later putting "unwanted people" on box cars and shipping them to gas chambers and ovens.

Why aren't people freaking out about Florida and also many other states? There is a group who actually want it, there is a group who are victims but can't raise sufficient alarm, there is a group either in denial, or think it will just go away.

We are right where Germany was: 1/3 of Americans would kill another 1/3, while 1/3 watches.

The backlash is there... on social media where it's not worth a bucket full of warm spit.

The most effective weapon against bad politicians is fear. Right now, the Republicans fear their base because their base are acting like insane radicals with guns (in lieu of pitchforks and torches). And they are energized and voting.

The left thinks that protesting is putting on a pink hat, troll people on Twitter, dye their hair purple and get another tattoo. No one fears people with pink hats and purple hair. There are some issues where they are mobilizing - guns, for example. Thankfully, they're voting in high numbers, even in off-year elections. But they're disorganized, fractured into special-interest groups and they too quickly turn on each other.

The sad truth is that they are the majority. They just aren't acting like a majority. Until the left sets aside their identity politics and unites to get the States and the United States back on track, we're going to have to deal with these professional demagogues with no moral compass who ascend to political office.

The thing about freaking out about what's going on in Florida is what can the rest of us do about it? Other than point and yell, "BAD!"

Most of us are not going to move to Florida in order to vote there, and at least some people who are there already and hate what's happening will just get the fuck out, like they do from Alabama and Mississippi and Indiana.

It's not about moving, it's about backing candidates. In the last election, the Democrats focused on specific races and they shorted good candidates like Tim Ryan in Ohio.

The Democrats ran a good candidate for Senate from Florida in 2022 but they underfunded the entire State of Florida:

You can vote, volunteer, give, and be vocal in your own districts and communities and pester others to do the same - work to elect national leaders who will check this insanity. You can give and, in some cases, volunteer your time to Politicians, PACs, causes, foundations, and even people in Florida who fight the good fight, there is a lot we can do without having to go live and vote in places like Florida or even Texas which is competing with DeSantis for fascist crazy. Get in the faces of your local Dems and your Congressional delegation and demand this become an issue, Fuck Cracker Barrel and businesses like them, and never go there. Fuck Chick-fil-et too, Hobby Lobby, and anyone else who caters to the bigots. Be aware of where your money is going snd spend accordingly - and I can't even believe I am saying this, you can support Mickey the Fucking Mouse.

Apathy and helplessness are weapons of the enemy.

The point is to get active in every way possible because there is no one coming the make it all better. Florida may not be where we live, but this is a national fight. Fascist insanity in Florida will not stay there., any more than fascist disenfranchisement in Texas will stop at the Red River. All or nothing, all together. That is the only way out.

Today the toad is all over the news. You needn't go look, toad lies, toad has tantrums, toad goes to court and lies and has tantrums about court.
