What I've been hearing is there is now a concerned backlash against the populists in Europe that is the reason for Wilders losing. The backlash is because Europeans are seeing Trump on the news and are suddenly scared of where this trend is going.

Wilders is in a strong position of opposition. And that's is in what some consider one of the most liberal countries in the EU. Think about that. Renzi lost his referendum in Italy. Brexit, despite the efforts of the 'Lords' to hamper it, is underway. Look at what's happening in Poland, and in Hungary. Look at the positions of Czech and Slovakian leaders in relation to the ongoing migrant crisis. Turkey is openly threatening to weaponise migrants. What is the EU doing about that? Offer Turkey's Erdogan more bribes? What a joke.
Merkel, for her part, is presiding over a Europe in Chaos. What solutions does she offer?

The context is a Europe in chaos, facing multiple crises. The change does not have to happen overnight.

This is one of those vague and utterly meaningless statements that really means that YOU like what he's doing. And so do most of the people who voted for him, although that number is also shrinking by the day.
The actual facts are that the majority of Americans didn't vote for him because they don't like what he want to do...it seems as though his core Trumpettes like you need to be constantly reminded that he has no popular mandate.
And not only did he enter office with the lowest approval rating of any president in modern history, it just keeps cratering.
He's a gust of air alright, only it is from talking out of his ass.
If he is in the White House for 8 years, it will only be because he has seized total control of power and is ruling openly as Diktator.
