Trump is back in Texas, this time to offer some empathy and compassion.

Too little, too late, too insincere? Bowing to pressure? Trying to make up ground and make it appear that he actually cares? He didn't care the first time. There was no compassion. No empathy. I doubt if he cares any more this time. I doubt if he's ever felt a moment of compassion or empathy. I doubt if he even knows what they mean.

Or how appropriate. Donald Trump campaigned by whipping the fires of hate into a frenzy. He demeaned women on the campaign trail by calling them ugly. He mocked a reporter for being in a wheelchair. He insulted Latinos by demeaning the office of the judiciary that actually had authority over a trial where he stood accused. He repeatedly fostered racist resentment against the first black president by impugning his right to be elected, rallying bigots the breadth of the nation who were too cowardly to let their racist resentment of Obama be called for what it was, simple racism.

Sewing and reaping. If anyone more richly deserves to be hated, it is the US president. His own party despises him. How telling.
