The Department of Homeland Security confirmed Wednesday that it has agreed to buy six Boeing
- The Department of Homeland Security confirmed it will buy six Boeing 737s for deportations by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
- DHS has a contract with Daedalus Aviation for the nearly $140 million purchase, The Washington Post reported.
- “This new initiative will save $279 million in taxpayer dollars by allowing ICE to operate more effectively, including by using more efficient flight patterns,” DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said.
737 planes to be used for deportations by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The Washington Post first reported DHS’ contract for the nearly $140 million purchase of the 737s from Daedalus Aviation.
Avjet’s brochure says the jet has a “5 zone VVIP cabin configuration” designed to accommodate 17 passengers. Accompanying pictures show an extremely luxurious interior layout that includes two suites with full-size beds and a master bathroom with a shower stall, among many other amenities. Whether any changes have since been made to the aircraft’s internal configuration is unknown, but there are no indications that it has. It would be expensive and time-consuming to make major changes to the core internal layout. Doing so would also call into question the basic rationale for any buyer to select this particular low-time VIP aircraft rather than a 737 in a more basic configuration, to begin with.
"The Respondents did attach a document to their Response purporting to show minor convictions for marijuana possession in 2009," the footnote reads. "The petitioner was four years old at the time, and the Respondent indicated that the document was supplied by ICE and likely presumed to relate to the Petitioner because the individual had the same name, despite differences in birthdate, birthplace, parents' names and immigration status."

Sen. Marsha Blackburn: ICE ends plans for Wilson County immigrant detention ‘mega center’
Tennessee becomes the latest Republican-led state to successfully push back against plans for immigrant holding facilities
Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn posted on X Tuesday that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement “will not move forward” with plans to build an immigrant detention mega center holding up to 16,000 detainees in Wilson County.
An ICE spokesperson confirmed the plans have been scrapped. “We have no plans to move forward with a detention centers (sic) in Lebanon, Tennessee,” an email from the spokesperson said.
Blackburn’s post marks the fourth public reversal in a little more than a week of on-again, off-again plans to locate a detention center in Lebanon, a suburban Wilson County community of about 51,000 located 30 miles east of Nashville.
I think that's a perfect status for the next Administration. Now honestly, I don't care if the US wants to import white people from SA because Musk told TrumpCo. to do it....but refugees? Seriously?
Funding for the department lapsed in mid-February amid a standoff between Republicans and Democrats over federal immigration reform. With TSA workers set to miss their first paycheck this week, an increased number of them are taking unscheduled time off leading to long lines and delays.
The TSA lines at Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport stretched for more than three hours again Monday morning, the agency reported. Similar wait times were seen there on Sunday. The airport continues to advise passengers to arrive four to five hours before their flights.
Scoop: White House tells House Republicans to stop talking about mass deportations
White House Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair privately urged House Republicans on Tuesday to stop emphasizing "mass deportations" and instead focus their messaging on removing violent criminals, according to sources in the closed-door briefing.
Why it matters: Mass deportations were central to the GOP's 2024 campaign message.
- Nearly half — 49% — of Americans say Trump's mass deportation campaign is too aggressive, including 1 in 5 voters who backed the president in 2024, a Politico poll from January found.
