Tyler Clementi's tormentor going to trial

I hope he gets 10 years. Lying sack of shit.

His fucking defense is saying the videos were never put online! They WERE. I know people who saw them!

Filth and scum. I hope he never gets out of prison.

He should rot in prison on bread and water. It costs $55,000 to feed and clothe and guard and toilet and entertain and educate and exercise each Australian prisoner per year.

You may be pleased to know that American prisons are dramatically less humane. That's what comes of running them as profit centers and having over 1% of the total population incarcerated.

These are the things that shame us before the nations. Be glad you're Australian.

I assure you I won't be going to prison. One of my business associates has and I'm chatting with a parolee now who committed some unspeakable crime. :(

It will be interesting to see what he has to say in his defense. I'm glad he's going to air his laundry in the public eye. Let everyone see what he is all about. I'm looking forward to him outing himself for what he is.....

I didn't mean to imply you'd be going to prison. I mean so you don't have to be ashamed of how your nation treats prisoners.

I'm sure we treat our criminals well. I hope you haven't been listening to propaganda from the bleeding hearts of the well-fed but continuously-complaining Irish/indigenous sub-class who make up a high proportion of the criminal/prison population

Prisoners are not treated that well in many cases.

In prisons, if you want to stay safe you pretty much either have to join a gang or become a queen and offer up your body to the more alpha inmates.

Did sum wun needa Queen?

I hope that guy gets the book thrown at him for being a fucking idiot first and for trying to cop out of it in the second part.

I feel sorry for the kid who was having sex with Tyler and is going to be dragged into this mess. I just read that the judge is not going to allow him to remain anonymous.

He is only releasing the name to the defendant and his attorney's though.

Uh, are you hoping that he never gets out of prison...or that he's in prison for only 10 years?

I didn't realize you were Australian. I've seen your posts in C E & P and though I usually disagree with them, I'm surprised to see where you're from, & thus that you're a lot more fluent in political thought than the vast majority of Americans are. I have to go by what I've observed in the "outside" world, as considering the C E & P group as representative of the general public would be very highly unscientific. The fact that we're nearly all gay or bisexual is only one factor, along with other demographic differences, etc.

Anyway, if you were in the U. S., you couldn't even make such a confident statement about being SURE you won't end up in prison. Just ask Kulindahr. He can tell you about a good friend of his who got railroaded into a very long prison term over a very simple debt. Police are allowed to put people in compromising situations and "sting" anybody they have a whim to**, and their word is always believed.

**SAMPLE SCENARIO: You don't know your tail light is burned out. The cop stops you and gives you a warning...then he claims to smell marijuana or something. He asks to search your car, and though it's your constitutional right to refuse the search, you'd better not - they'll just call the next precinct and you'll be stopped again and perhaps beaten up. So the cop searches your car. "Oh...look what I FOUND in your glove box!" The cop has five rocks of crack cocaine in his possession. Of course they weren't originally in your car, but they were in his pocket, just waiting for an opportunity where he could claim he found them in a car and grab another schmuck off the street for the Prison-Industrial Complex. I wouldn't be surprised to find out, either, that police departments are getting KICKBACKS from the privatized prison industry when they arrest and provide more warm bodies for their incarceration mills, which I sometimes colloquially call "Incarcerations-R-Us" (named after a well-known retail chain that sells playthings for kids and children of all ages...). Some of these prisons have factories inside them, making stuff for private industry - there's a lot more to it than just license plates now. The prison industry is an extremely powerful and profitable one, and they want MORE people!

I DO NOT SUPPORT FORCED SEX.... but reality being what it is and Prison being what it is this shithead will be the subject of his own intimate encounters soon.

Guys in case you've forgotten the guy does deserve a fair trial. So saying you want him in prison forever without knowing the facts is just plain ignorant.

I'm not defending him in any way but everyone has the right to defend themselves as they see fit.

My concern is the defence being raised that the the accused's actions 'played an insignificant role in the despair that caused Clementi to kill himself.'

They'll basically be arguing that, likely, as a closeted gay man, Clementi was depressed, distressed and in pain anyway and in all likelihood had planned to kill himself, regardless.

I could not possibly imagine the pain and distress his family and friends would be put through, if they are called to testify and be questioned on this point.

Terrible. Just terrible.

We know some of what Tyler was thinking during this period because he posted his concerns on this site. Will his postings be used as evidence?

I wonder what would have been the results if Tyler just got pissed off and beat the shit out of his roommate for invading his privacy and outing him without his consent. We will never know.

Extraordinarily ironic that the judge is releasing the identity of the second man to the defendant who is on trial for causing a man to feel so anguished and persecuted, so at his end that suicide was his only way to seize back any power to control any aspect of his life. Releasing the identity to a man who broadcast the most intimate aspects of these men's lives. I can't think what kind of argument the judge heard from Ravi's lawyer to convince him that the identity of the partner of Clementi was in any way relevant to the actions taken by Ravi. It sounds like another case of lawyering gone awry, with judges too stupid or lazy or weak to draw a line. Let's see how long it takes for this poor man's name to be leaked in an effort to distract the press from Ravi. Of course, his lawyer will easily convince this judge that it won't have been any of them who released his name.

Nothing like a nice dose of bigotry to remind us that racism appears to be a universal feature of conservative thought.
