The government took covert action but I agree they didn't do enough.

Britain now has a whole generation of potential terrorists. They were born in Britain and they hate everything that Britain has given them.

Have you heard about the inbreds of Bradford?

You don't always have to sound so resigned, do you? Beautiful things happen dialysis, too--and for eons. Just not very sexy to report. I *will* give you that stone chiselers and internet users 1 & 2 seem to have tons in common though.

Oh, well.

You're welcome.

Limiting the freedom of speech for citizens in a free society to appease Islamists goes against everything that a free society stands for. Free speech except for blasphemy. Free speech except for criticism of Islam. To lay the blame on the film makers, however offensive and bigoted the video may be, is misguided.

I'm not saying they should be completely without blame but how about we actually blame the oversensitive and barbaric Islamists that are actually killing people.

This is what happens when right wing wackos in the US get to produce whatever they want without consideration for other cultures. I am NOT excusing the violence in Libya or Egypt. And I think it was disgusting that they killed an Ambassador who felt so connected with Libya and even helped their rebel movement so extensively against Qaddafi. The accusation is Qaddafi supporters are still around and trying to cause chaos... and they used the protest to launch an attack against the US embassy knowing the Ambassador had ties with people who overthrew Moammar Qaddafi.

At any rate, the movie shows freedom of speech should not be unlimited. If I get attacked by the usual reactionary for saying that... consider this: You don't yell fire in a theater. IF one made a movie incredibly insulting of right wing Christians there would be retaliation and violence too.

No comparison. You are blaming the wrong people.
If they don't like the film, they should go to court. God/allah is all powerful, don't need these islamist to defend it.

The killings are tragic. But the Americans created this mess by NOT being anti-imperial/colonial. Simple as that. You can't have it both ways. Americans need to turn inward and stop fueling terrorists. They are weakening by doing this. Meanwhile their country is perishing from inside.

Shame.

I condemn the killings but most of all condemn Obama. His response was IDIOTIC. Americans need to vote him out even before the elections. A vote of no confidence!

When you say that freedom of speech should not be unlimited it sounds an awful lot like limiting or censoring speech. I'm sorry but Islamists do not deserve any respect at all. None. Cultures do not automatically deserve respect either. Respect is earned, not given unconditionally. The fact that most people treat Islam with kid gloves is not out of respect. It is out of fear of retaliation and violence.

It sounds like it may have been 9/11 motivated.

Of course it was. Simple people like simple patterns.

Some of them were planning some violence to celebrate 9/11 but local police arrested them this morning.

I'm NOT saying restrict freedom of speech. I'm saying people need to express accountability and restraint towards other cultures. You don't yell fire in a theater. It's still a sensitive time in many of these countries... and unstable after the fall of several dictators.

Oh and I'll be real damn clear. Those who made the movie are just as guilty as those who launched the rocket attack into the embassy and killed the US Ambassador and his staff. Restraint is something someone should know. So no Bort you're wrong. I'm not appeasing anyone and I'm certainly not appeasing Islamists. What a bullsh*t argument.

Restraint towards other cultures goes both ways.
I'm sure these islamists (yes they are Muslims) called all modern women sluts, whores, cunts and worst ... without restraint.

And NO, the film maker is not responsible.
I strongly dis-agreed with you.

You think wrong... once again. Got anymore knee reactionary one liners to make?

- - - Updated - - -

The film maker is definitely sharing part of the responsibility of what happened here, and go ahead and strongly disagree with me. Maybe if some here could demonstrate a rational argument we would get somewhere.

Oh and I hate to break it to you, but there are people in America that call women that ... they also want homosexuals with no rights and locked up.

Nope, its the same as the moon is responsible.
And the whole culture (islamic) called modern women sluts whores is not acceptable.

I’m glad that you want to take action but I’d prefer you to go in front.

I do think people should have face-to-face experience of what they’re talking about. Because all those academics, sophists and intellectuals are sitting safely theorising in their armchairs out of harm’s way.

I have witnessed two ugly and bloody bashings by people who have no concept of rationality, balance or discipline.

How disappointing to find some of the remaining virtues of America thrown out readily as expendable in the face of terrorism -- way to cave in exactly the manner desired by the terrorists. THAT sounds reactionary indeed.

The argument that attacks on the Christian Right would bring equal violence is as idiotic as it is inaccurate. There have been abortion clinic bombings, but they were not in retaliation to satire nor to perceived blasphemy in the media. Three decades ago, Monty Python produced "Life of Brian" and solidly lampooned the life of Christ. No riots, no RPGs, no lynching of theaters owners who showed it. There were protests, but not violent. The novel "The Exorcist" included a scene in which a crucifix was used to masturbate the possessed girl, but no one attacked the author or the publisher. Similarly, a crucifix was depicted in a jar of urine in an art exhibit about a decade or so ago, but it did not result in violence.

All that said, the Islamic religion is not the problem, but militants using it are. Christianity is not superior to the same manipulation, as the Oklahoma City bombing included elements of religious fanaticism mixed with anti-government mania.

The United States has been up to its balls with manipulating Iran and deposed the Shah's father long ago to control Iran for decades thereafter. We have backed the Saudi royal family in overtly anti-democratic ways that would enrage an entire spectrum of sympathizers in the Levant. Most recently, we invaded a sovereign nation, Iraq, and replicated the Iraqis' transgressions when they invaded Kuwait. It fanned anti-Americanism in a way that is reminiscent of Nasser's era.

To be sure, the assassination of any ambassador is a depraved act, but let there be no question about it, America has sewn the seeds of animus through decades upon decades of treating the region like a private oil larder. Although the late ambassador may be innocent of the transgressions that merit death, the country he represented cannot claim such innocence.

The incitement to riot is not the same as publishing something offensive and a riot ensuing; they are entirely different.

yes… all those academics, sophists and intellectuals are sitting safely theorising in their armchairs out of harm’s way…

You just watch. The extremeist Muslems are then ones you have to watch for, and they are growing in numbers every day. There is a jihad against the west, whether you like it or not. It is comming. And it's not just about religion; Islam is a way of life, the fastest growing culture on the planet. And it is their tenet, in the koran, to take over the world. And it's working.

Did you see you the word 'witnessed' in my previous post and the mention in that other thread of the mosque and the car with the JIH4D number-plate two streets from me?

Wait, what? Where does it say that in the Quran? lol

Nothing about world domination can be found in the Quran.

9:33 He it is Who hath sent His messenger with the guidance and the Religion of Truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religion, however much the idolaters may be averse.

25:36 Then We said: Go together unto the folk who have denied Our revelations. Then We destroyed them, a complete destruction.

47:4 Now when ye meet in battle those who disbelieve, then it is smiting of the necks until, when ye have routed them, then making fast of bonds; and afterward either grace or ransom till the war lay down its burdens. That (is the ordinance). And if Allah willed He could have punished them (without you) but (thus it is ordained) that He may try some of you by means of others. And those who are slain in the way of Allah, He rendereth not their actions vain.

48:28 He it is Who hath sent His messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religion. And Allah sufficeth as a Witness.
