Supermarkets are running low on the occasional thing as a result of the so-called pingdemic nonsense, but essentially the story is not true.

We have been like that off and on since March of last year here in my town.

Selective posing of the photo only shows aisle end shelves empty. That is usually where the special offers go
We have some temporary shortages but nothing like 19 months ago

You know, it would be helpful if you also posted the link to the story.

https://www.euronews.com/2021/07/21...-to-leave-supermarket-shelves-empty-in-the-uk

If you read the story, you'd know why the shortage of lorry drivers, and COVID have created this situation.

A shortage of supermarket staff — due to what has been dubbed a 'pingdemic', people called on to self-isolate after coming into contact with a COVID infected person — and lorry drivers are said to be at the heart of the problem.

It’s estimated the UK has 100,000 fewer truck drivers than it needs.

And why would it be on US or Australian news? We can watch the BBC and read the Guardian just as easily as watching ABC.

I remember seeing this on the news of store running low in things when this virus started

That was different. That was morons panic buying in bulk and leaving nothing for everyone else. The supermarkets had to place limits on the amounts a person could buy until everything settled down. There weren't actually shortages, it was just that shelves couldn't be refilled as quickly as they were being emptied.

Because ............ for the Uk

What is "pingdemic nonsense"?

An NHS app on people's phones detects via Bluetooth who they've been near to. If one of those contacts subsequently tests positive for Covid-19, everyone else is "pinged" by the app and told to isolate. These people can't then go to work (for instance as delivery drivers) and the large numbers involved have been causing difficulties. There have been so many pings that it's been called a "pingdemic".

The solution of course is to get rid of the app and take no notice, but many employers apparently insist on its use.

Can't say about large supermarkets as i don't visit them anymore.

The local Sainsbury's/Tesco etc seem to be managing fine.

Thanks. It sounds like a good concept with poor implementation.

My small local Tesco had a few empty shelves today. :(

But I doubt that it has anything to do with brexit or covid; the place is managed by a complete idiot who seems to have no idea how to maintain stock.

Fortunately the shelves were full of fresh veggies and all the stuff that I usually buy. :D

I read there's a change shortage at Boston area CVS's, and the cashiers are rounding up.

Maybe UK can wait for AUKUS submarines to put on their selves later :?

They are true and it is all because of BREXIT period! The UK destroyed it serlf leaving the union !

Just got a huge delivery from Asda/Walmart, had to give me ten substitutes from my order, so while the shop isn't empty some of the brand name stuff are missing.

There’s a huge Lunchables shortage here in the US and chicken wings are impossible to find.

I read that turkeys are going to be scarce around thanksgiving and are going to be much more expensive because of the shortage.
