Unable to clear my bowel completedly

Re: I poo a lot everyday

I'm just saying if you eat alot of food you'll usually go to the bathroom often. I sometimes eat alot myself and ill feel like another trip to bathroom so it's probably just natural

My doctor say that I have pelvic floor dysfunction which is why I can't empty my bowel completedly.
You now have the reason, from the medical profession, so follow a program of improving the pelvic floor dysfunction: your doctor should have given you options to follow, if not, ask for a treatment plan.

I think you should really follow up your concerns with the frequency and volume of defecation with a doctor who would better understand the reasons. It sounds like you are not absorbing sufficient nutrition and this could could be for any number of reasons that we can't diagnose on forums, so again see a doctor to follow up the situation.

I'm 60 and have only had 1 colonoscopy during which they removed a few polyps. I would have gone for more except the medical profession where I live changed the rules and required all colonoscopies to be done in a hospital where they gather all patients together early in the morning and require them to wait for up to 4 hours before they get through the list sequentially and you have to make your way home. I can't tolerate this due to my Social Phobia, so have not been since, even though I should for my health. It was far more acceptable when it was done locally by appointment at the medical centre just around the corner from where I lived. It was a stupid money saving efficiency move and was counterproductive, in my opinion, in that it discouraged people from maintaining their health leading to greater future medical intervention effort.

I am just afraid that incomplete bowel evacuation will slowly lead to fecal incontininence (stool accidentally leaking out from the rectum)
Hasn't happened in my case and I have been experiencing bowel issues for more than a decade. Incontinence is more about weakening of the sphincters than the muscles in the bowel that expel the contents, I think, and if I recall correctly, the anal sphincters are often the last muscles to weaken in the body. However, if I don't evacuate soon after I get the urge, then the buildup could possibly leak, although I have only had a few minor occurrences of that when I didn't heed what my body wanted. We should listen to our bodies and when they want to operate, even though we can hold back a little for convenience.

People do vary in their digestion transit times: for me it takes about 3 days from in to out and I have noticed as I age that the flow is much more continuous, so after an evacuation it isn't long before I have more contents in the bowel (but I can wait a bit before it builds up enough to develop a sense of urgency to evacuate again).

Please, seek medical assistance for your concerns and follow what your body wants to do: don't force it and try to stop worrying so much about "what if": it's entirely possible your gut biome has degraded due to antibiotics and is no longer properly digesting food, hence the probiotic suggestion. I believe they can even do a fecal transplant (ie insert fecal material from a healthy person into your digestive tract) these days if things are too much out of whack, to restore balance. Let the medical profession worry about what it might be: your task is only to bring concerns to their attention.

The doctor never spoke to me after the colonoscopy. She left.

It was a nurse who spoke to me. She said my results were normal.

I was discharged and refered to the digestive center for "irritable bowel syndrome."

I used to have IBS. Started having it when I was in my mid-teens. Tried every treatment thrown at me. No go on any of them.

Finally, in my mid 30s, I found Dr. McDougall online and read about him.

My IBS started improving almost immediately after I started eating healthier. It went away completely and hasn't come back. No medication was involved. It's all in your diet.

The biggest benefit. Nowadays, I go once in the morning and that's it. No need to go the rest of the day at all. And when I go, it's not an emergency like it used to.

Just sharing my personal experience on IBS.

Chronic constipation

I have been suffering from chronic constipation every day since last year.

I can't live my life like this. I am worry if my constipation is due to nerve, muscle damage or something blocking in my anal canal.

I had rubber band ligation last year for three grade 1 piles in my rectum. After the procedure, I feel very very painful.

I ask the doctor if rubber band ligation will damage my rectum nerves and they say "No".

But when I poo now, I can't seem to feel the presence of stool in my rectum. The stool is not really moving at all in my rectum and I need to push, breath in and breath out, expand my stomach to push the stool out of my anus.

I have been dignosed with pelvic floor disorder. But I think it could be more than just pelvic floor disorder that is causing my constipation.

Re: Chronic constipation

It sounds like your primary doctor needs to refer you to a gastroenterologist, but I know that there more informed people on this site, so I hope that they will respond to you with more professional information.

Thank you.

I don't really have a strong urge to poo anymore.

I am very scared and worried.

In the past, after breakfast in the morning, I will have a strong urge to poo. Then I will go to the toilet and pull down my pants and sit on the toilet bowl. And the poo will come out naturally by itsef.

But now , after I eat food in the morning, I have a little bit of urge to poo. But it is not strong enough and it is just a lot of gas coming out.

Then I go to the toilet, pull down my pants and sit on the toilet bowl. But the poo will not come out naturally by itself. I need to initiate/ strain/ push to get the poo to come out.

I am scared and worried. Is this due to my rectum nerves and muscles not working properly?

If the rectum nerves is damaged , will it heal back or will it be damaged forever?

I am scared and worried that my rectum nerves and muscles are damaged and I am stuck with this constipation for the rest of my life.

Re: Chronic constipation

Definitely get your PCP to refer you to a GI Dr. get yourself evaluated!

Re: Chronic constipation

I found that walking helped me to have bowel movements. I had a doctor who, after he examined me, said that I should use MiraLax every day, which also helps, but the directions on the bottle say to not use it more than 7 days without seeing a doctor, which is what I recommend. After I used MiraLax for awhile my stools changed from small dried lumps to large soft logs.

Thanks.

But shouldn't I be seeing a colorectal doctor instead of a GI doctor ?

Re: Chronic constipation

Last year, I did a CT scan for my abdomen and rectum area at the hospital.

The CT scan shows that I have rectum wall thickening.

I and worried and I ask the doctor regarding this matter.

But the doctor said that my rectum wall thickening is most likely due to me straining when I have bowel movement.

But I read on the internet that rectum wall thickening can be due to inflammation of the rectum.

I am scared and worried and I don't know if I should believe/trust the doctor or not.

Re: Chronic constipation

Also, doctors recommended that I drink plenty of water which will help my stool from being dried and hard.

Re: Chronic constipation

Eating habits can impact so much your gut health! Try to have a healthier lifestyle, eat more vegetables, fruits, do sports etc It won't be a miracle, but it will surely help you in time!

Re: Chronic constipation

Hi.

My CT scan shows my rectum wall is thickening. Does this mean I have inflammatory bowel disease?

Recently, I noticed that sometimes I have normal stool in the morning, followed by sudden diarrhea at night.

Also, I noticed that often my stool is sticky,

I have a recent sigmoidscophy and on the monitor screen, I noticed patches of redness inside my colon, rectum wall.

I am scared and worried that my CT scan and symptons suggest that I may have inflammatory bowel diseases.

Re: Chronic constipation

Hi. I have been passing out large, hard stool recently.

I don't poop for 2 days. When I finally poop on the 3rd day, the stool is very large, hard and bulky and it is very very very painful.

When the large, hard , bulky stool comes out of my rectum, it is very painful and there is a lot of blood coming out too.

Re: Chronic constipation

Hi Travis,

When there's a lot of blood coming out, it's time to get to the doc &/or a specialist. Not fun to go to the doc so many times in one year, I know but it's the best thing you can do now before it could get worse.
