Years ago I read that Andrew isn't cut from the same cloth as his father. Google Lord Porchester. Even the show, 'The Crown' had [STRIKE]eluded[/STRIKE] alluded to an affair.

There. Fixed it for you.

The term pedophile is overused. While what these people have done is illegal and is against the law it by no means constitutes pedophilia. I worked with a straight red neck a number of years back and he confided to me that his daughters female friends that were 15 looked sexy to him. Well of course they did, it's nature. A youth reaches an age where they mature physically and straight guys notice curves and bumps or breasts. Totally natural. We don't need an archeologist to tell us that it wasn't all that long ago that girls as young as 13 were marrying middle aged men. Society moved the goal posts to 18, nature didn't move with them.

Finding a teen attractive hardly make one a perv. or pedo. Some gay men go to porn sites and look for legal twinks that look like they are underage. Dare I say that there are some who like kids and never act on their desires. Hell, if most of us acted upon desires the prison building industry would not be able to keep up.

What is wrong? Obviously acting upon desires that would exploit the innocent. Using power and money to buy flesh... that is wrong. Violating trust, a child trusts people that are older. Once trust is violated a child is damaged.
I find myself at a place where I am never shocked when stories come up about a teacher with her 13 year old student. Sexuality is fluid and complex, people should not hate themselves over desires. They need to understand that trying to fulfill these desires creates damaged goods. Cheating a child out of their innocence ruins their life.

As with most subjects about sex, desires that seem to go against the grain of societal norm are not spoken of until it's to late.

I thought that pedophile meant an attraction to pre-pubescent boys and girls. It's now being thrown about for an attraction to teenagers.

This week the NYT had a long piece on the Gauguin Portraits show at the National Gallery in London. (Small, excellent show, by the way.) The piece wasn't so much about the paintings as the subjects of some of the paintings, that is, teenage Polynesian girls with whom Gauguin may have had sexual relations. The "experts" commenting on the man and his life condemned him as a pedophile for having sex with 13 and 14 year olds. There was no mention in the article that the age of consent in France at that time (and perhaps therefore in French Polynesia) was 13. One can imagine that prior to colonization by the French, it would have been at puberty, if the concept even existed. Gauguin may have been an errant husband, and there may have been good reasons for the missionary priests to counsel young women to stay away from him, but there is no evidence he was a pedophile, nor is there any that Epstein was either.

Juliet is presumed to have been 14, and Romeo about that age as well. We may presume that Paris--her betrothed--was in his late 20's to mid 30s. This was typical of the period. And not unknown in many places prior to the 20th century.

^ Since the threshold of adulthood has been pushed forward during the last decades, it's a logical consequence that childhood has followed the same changes in perception.

^ The age of consent in Spain was changed from 13 to 16 only a few years ago, after the 2011 pepperian government.
