Unbelievably Insane Statement...

I was at the restauraunt in Little America, WY a couple of years ago -- when one of the "locals" came in to pick up his take out...

While he was waiting for the food -- a female truck driver started hitting on him in a VERY non-discreet way -- she said that he MUST be lonely, living out here in the middle of nowhere and all...

He responded by saying -- "Lady, I live out here because I don't like people"...

Thats the BEST REASON I've ever heard of why someone would CHOOSE to live there...

:lol::lol::lol:

but Lex - they have a university there -- seriously !!!

and yeah - they have 'em in canada too -and look what happened !

NOTHING surprises me anymore as far as stupidity goes. I work with college educated people who thought Obama was a Muslim and not a U.S. Citizen. They are also Biblical Literalists, so that should explain their ignorance. Pick up a newspaper for fuck's sake!

As the saying goes, "ignorance is BLISS!"

One of the things I like about Colorado is how diverse it is. We've got large cities and tiny towns. We've got mountains, we've got rivers, we've got farmland, we've got vineyards, we've got sand dunes, we've got mesas.

And squirrels infected with bubonic plague. Connie Willis (who lives in Colorado) pointed that out at Denvention III.

Actually I really liked Denver, except for the lack of good restaurants. It rained every single day I was there, and I teased the locals by saying "I love Denver, but it's too rainy here!" ;)

>>>Actually I really liked Denver, except for the lack of good restaurants.

Weird. Denver has really become a "foodie" town as of late. Pubert and I have several favorites, and a ton more we haven't gotten around to trying yet...

Um. If "as of late" means "in 2009-10," maybe. Definitely not a foodie town in 2008 when I was there. Or maybe the restaurants around the Convention Center were just not Denver's best.

Of course, New York is THE foodie town (at least in this hemisphere)...and I'm no slouch as a cook myself. Maybe I'm just a food snob.

The best restaurant I found there was in my hotel (hotel restaurants are generally not of the highest quality). Best grilled cheese I ever had.

Also...why on Earth would anyone stop in Laramie for lunch?

It's as good a place as any.The first theing to remember is that Wyoming is the asshole of the universe.Especially in winter. It can be a real horror show making it across that baren 400 mile stretch of I-80..

As you travel through Wyoming ,there are only major towns every hundred miles or so.In between those towns, there is absolutely nothing but brush, mountains and lots of wind..

Besides,Laramie has a pretty good truckstop(Petro) and is a good place to refuel, stretch your legs and get some chow..

Going west from there, the next decent place is a few hours down the road at a place called Little America..

Assholes, in my opinion, are more fun to visit. In fact I go back to them again and again.

I see no reason to go to Wyoming at all. Should I be on one side and need to be on the other, I think flying over should suffice.

When I drove over the road I had to drive across Wyoming many, many times. They don't put your produce on planes from California. It has to be driven all the way across the country, and usually ,that means your going across Wyoming too.

Otherwise, I agree with you.If I didn't have to drive across it, I wouldn't.

Yeah, I haven't forgotten at all. I don't think it's fair to blame the town of Laramie for that though. There are assholes everywhere.Hell, it was just a few months ago in Brooklyn, a man was killed because he was thought to be gay.I don't hear anybody talking about boycotting NYC..

LOL I personally wouldn't really want to go any more west or south than Maryland unless it was to go to a state on the Pacific or a very touristy city in FL.

Your missing out on some real beautiful scenery then.I think everybody should drive cross country once or twice.

Hell, even Wyoming, the first few times you see it,(at the right time of year) is a beautiful place. It just wears you down by the time you've seen it 40-50 times.

Also, to be honest with you,Maryland isn't high on the list of beautiful places in the U.S.-I mean,I rather be pistol whipped than have to go many parts of Baltimore, and D.C is no prize either.

Scenerywise, yeah, there are better places, but in terms of actually living somewhere, I'd feel a lot more comfortable living in the northeast or CA than living in, say, Ohio, just due to the fact that certain areas are more liberal than others.

We do have the Chesapeake Bay here in Maryland, though, which is cool. Also, we have Assateague Island, which has a fuckload of wild horses running around on it.

Sorry that happened to you, swerve. Matthew Shepard notwithstanding, I wouldn't judge all of Laramie by the actions of a few. I spent a number of years in Northern Colorado and made visits to Laramie every so often, and most of the people were really nice.

You can always run across lunatics, and Lord knows some parts of the country have more of them than others. The Texas Panhandle, for example. Tough place, with little economic opportunity. Most people with any potential whatsoever get away as fast as they can, and it's only the people with a bit of a screw loose that stay and kinda fester in economic malaise and mental instability.

Apologies to any JUBbers in the Panhandle. :)

Swerve, you always seem to handle ignorance and conflict w/ class. Many other people would've just ignored the comments and written the man off (which is usually the lazy way out), while others would've jumped into a pissing match w/ him (which isn't helping).
