USA ban Vegemite!

This Flash just in from the Gallic Front
certain high ranking officials of the french forign legion were infitrated earlier today crossing the Canadian/ US border with heaping carts of Vegemite {pos WMD} under which they had secreted 2200 Sodomites .

US President Select H. Climton voiced her outrage at the flippant disregard the Sons of Gaul showed towards American womanhood and vowed that General Martha Stewart and her crack team would immediately counter attack on french airwaves both radio and television with anti insurgent messages {more WMD} i.e. propaganda tapes titled "A hole in one is better than #2" and "come home to mamam" .

K Mart headquarters hhas alraedy posted banners inquiring "how much is that froggie in the window and is offering a special reward of 1 dozen eggs for every 500,000 tadpoles, aka little swimmers, turned in at any of their camps world wide.

OK, my humor engine ran out...sorry, will do better next time

I think Vegemite should be classified as a WMD.

But yeh this is going too far. I KNOW there are better thing that need taking care of!

The US bans the import of a lot of overseas food products. It needs to stop. A friend brought me a salami from Italy and customs seized it. That salami cost 25 euros!! :grrr: :grrr: :grrr:

You pretty much can't bring any meat, fresh vegetables, seeds or soil across the border (maybe from Canada though) without the correct permits and inspection because of risks from certain kinds of agricultural pests. Even most of that stuff can be imported as long as it doesn't break certain other restrictions (like the folate content). It just has to go through an involved USDA process that isn't done for individuals carrying items in their personal luggage.

I think you have to be born to it. I'm Australian, and I love Vegemite; always have. A day that doesn't include some vegemite toast in it is a day not worth having.

I always take a large jar of vegemite when travelling overseas. It is an acquired taste but as it it one that we grow up with and is almost an obsession for breakfast at least several times a week. I can never remember not having any in the cupboard. So if this all falls under the Free Trade Agreement with the US then can we ban McDonalds in retaliation. That product would cause far more harm than any jar of vegemite. Geez. the yanks want to either take over our national brands or ban them.

Apparently the ban has been pulled. It was put on as the FDA thought that Folates had been added, when the folates are naturally occuring, therefore OK! Still seems odd to me though!

vegemite is delicious. I think the reason why people not from Australia hate it is because they spread it like peanut butter (thick).

Australia should ban some of the food America gives us... Mcdonalds, KFC etc

A similar product was banned in the U.S. back in the 1950s:

I like Vegemite. I do prefer Marmite slightly, but it's about four times the price.

Good for the late-night munchies - 'mite on toast.

And speaking of Marmite: Illustrator and Marmite lover Dermot Flynn has created a series of celebrity portraits, using Marmite on toast. Top, from left: David Cameron, Pete Doherty, Margaret Thatcher, Charlotte Church. Bottom: Simon Cowell, Gordon Ramsay, Nikki Grahame, James Blunt
