Vintage Wines

^ I have a newer one still in the racks from the 80's.

But don't know how it stacks up.

good luck. I would prefer to guzzle them back though.

well, my cellar holds over 600 bottles 🙂
I sell these 7 cuz all (but one) are leftover, a bit old and kinda forgotten ones - I use the profit to buy new wine...

Mine now has fewer than 300 bottles because my heirs don't drink and I am using up all the mediocre bottles that no one will thank me for keeping.

Another wet dream...

a Romanée-Conti 2007 in Methusalem-Format
= 6 Liter, the vintage produced 4.088 bottles of all formats in total.
Fetched 350,000 Euro at an auction at Sothebys.

I once owned a bottle of

Romanée-Conti La Tâche, outstanding wine !

hahaha.

I am dreaming of a red Christmas, but I have a lovely Pouilly Fuisse to finish up because my niece will only have one glass and no one else drinks white.

An outstanding wine to come - unfortunately his price will be too...

Trouble in paradise...

Only 29 percent of young consumers still like wine

Red wine consumption in France down by a third since 2011..!

the french government takes 2,5 million hectoliters (est. 350 million bottles) off the market,
it`s going to be destilled to industry alcohol and bio-alcohol to be used in cars.
A great part of this bleeding comes from the Bordeaux area due to massive overproduction.

Great red wine from Pays d'Hérault in southern France
even she likes it...

A 48-year-old woman was found alive and well after spending five days lost in the Australian outback,
surviving off a single bottle of wine and some sweets.

I may have let it slip over the years that I love a fine wine and had built up a fairly good cellar...and then, when we were updating our wills and because my partner doesn't drink at all...I was directing my wine to a best friend (because my other heirs are also disinterested), it struck me.

I could drink these.

And so I am.

I have sent one bottle I opened the other evening down the drain...it really should have been opened about 15 years ago and was just vile.

This evening I am enjoying a Faively 1er cru Chevrey Gambertin 1999 and it has kept almost perfectly. It isn't a great vintage...but nicely balanced.

The oldest I now have is a 1959 Bourgogne because we drank the older wines over the years.

And since I have had only one glass of this this evening....I am still sober enough to appreciate the wine.

Does anyone else have favourite older bottles they have been saving for an occasion?
I have like 200 bottles of red wine in stock. Usually I listen to the seller's advice but since he's only human I open a bottle some years earlier 'cos it happened before I had to threw away a whole crate. But honestly I never keep them longer than 8-10 years.

This thread is intresting. I prefer to drink red wine only a few years after keeping it in stock though. Which means I usually have to pay more to buy a wine which is already 5 years old. I posted my two faves (the year is not important although we all know 2014 wasn't exactly the best year for any European wine).
