well, my cellar holds over 600 bottlesgood luck. I would prefer to guzzle them back though.
I have like 200 bottles of red wine in stock. Usually I listen to the seller's advice but since he's only human I open a bottle some years earlier 'cos it happened before I had to threw away a whole crate. But honestly I never keep them longer than 8-10 years.I may have let it slip over the years that I love a fine wine and had built up a fairly good cellar...and then, when we were updating our wills and because my partner doesn't drink at all...I was directing my wine to a best friend (because my other heirs are also disinterested), it struck me.
I could drink these.
And so I am.
I have sent one bottle I opened the other evening down the drain...it really should have been opened about 15 years ago and was just vile.
This evening I am enjoying a Faively 1er cru Chevrey Gambertin 1999 and it has kept almost perfectly. It isn't a great vintage...but nicely balanced.
The oldest I now have is a 1959 Bourgogne because we drank the older wines over the years.
And since I have had only one glass of this this evening....I am still sober enough to appreciate the wine.
Does anyone else have favourite older bottles they have been saving for an occasion?
