Vintage Wines

Some of my favourites are modest wines.

But it is never about the alcohol content. I could get drunker quicker and cheaper on Vodka.

True that.
And this evening I am enjoying an Italian Pinot Grigio of no particular note but available to us at less than $20 per bottle.

But I also have some really fine Tuscans and Whites set aside for our Italian dinner for Neghbours in a few weeks!

Wine is a celebration.

And conversations about $20-ish wines that are of "no particular note" and conversations about "really fine" wines are why I made the comment I made in the "what are you doing" thread:

When I came here earlier, I got an Alert/notice that someone had posted in a wine thread here. I don't think I ever posted in that thread, but I had posted in a thread that got merged into that thread last week, which is, I presume, why I got the Alert. I looked at the posting, and once again was reminded of one reason I avoid that thread: I don't have the resources for or background with $$$$$ wines. Once again, I mourn the newer thread, which I had hoped would bring up some conversation about wines that might actually be viable for those of us whose means don't permit $$$$ wines.

Maybe next time I splurge on wine, I should consider a jug of Carlo Rossi Burgundy. A piece I just read made this comment:
I love this wine and consider it among the best $9.99 I've spent all year.

Whatever.

There is drinking plonk and then there is drinking wine.

When I was very poor, I would save up for a bottle of drinkable, modest wines...mostly Italian whites which you can get for less than $20/bottle Cdn, once converted to US$.

It seems though that the only wine you enjoy is made of sour grapes. Enjoy.

And by all means, enjoy whatever you are are drinking.

In the meantime, I am giving each of my neighbours one of our favourites (and theirs) for having our laneway cleared out this week for the EMS crew. Hopefully they will share.

The last but one - going to the upcoming spring auction, I wonder...
