Watching Brad

^ I remember when Connie came back. She was never supposed to and I had forgotten everything about her. I couldn't even remember what she looked like or how she talked. I knew her personality, but that was about it. When she was gone, she was supposed to be gone for good. I had to go back and search her name chapter by chapter to find out who she was (so to speak). And when she did come back, I had no idea what she was going to do. That was one of the situations which just fell out of my fingers, onto the keyboard, and into the story.

Please don't ask for a reappearance.

What about the Lesbians - I loved them. I know you said you got a lot of flack from some people about them.

If they do, it will be only cameo appearances or casual mentions. A lot of readers didn't take kindly to them, either in this thread or in PMs. I couldn't create two males to replace them character-wise, so I created Barry and Nathan instead.

The wedding rehearsal went surprisingly well. Nathan was there, taking notes and helping to coordinate everything. He had promised to make sure everything would run smoothly on Saturday afternoon. As I said earlier, we owed Nathan big time for this.

Imagine our surprise when we were alerted to an Email from none other than ‘the other Clive Barker'. He was still in Canada, but would be heading back to London on Wednesday and didn't want to leave without knowing the full extent of the...
You explained a few times that the timeline of the story started in the 2005, the year previous to when you started writing it, and that the story timeline would eventually catch up with the current timeline. Well, you weren't doing a very good job of catching the timeline up HERE, were you...about two weeks covered in this period? LOL.

I've gotten this far, now! I'm still lovin' it! I haven't seen anybody mention it yet, but there are a lot of life-lessons that can be learned from your story. The rewards of "being a good person" towards those of us who enter our lives, and who share this planet, come out well. You have presented quandaries that many of us encounter at one time or another, and your characters have dealt with them with grace and great skill, even when situations looked hopeless. Connie's appearance at the reception showed her full realization (without even a long description) of what she could have had, and the consequences of throwing it all away.

Most recently, from my perspective of where I've read so far, a good example is Dan Phillips, the father of Lindsay's first boyfriend Daniel. He seemed so terribly recalcitrant and hopeless about the "fag" issue, and yet Ted was able to win him over and convince him to go to the party and let the kids have a nice day from it, and...it was entirely believable. Teddy-did-good. In a similar situation, I could have never managed that, but he was doing it for Lindsay AND the twins.

This is still the best writing that I've ever read...anywhere.

You have the skill, too, to find a way to inject humor in a very tasteful way, often at a time when we least expect it.

With fewer than 1,000 posts to read, I know I'm catching up. Good thing, too. I've not been getting some things done that should be getting done.

That was the original plan. The story became really big really fast and converging timelines took a back seat. I blame it on the cliff-hangers.

Are you sure it wasn't the hot sex scenes that distracted you? They weren't every chapter, but they were memorable.

We both knew, though, that Vic was nothing more than a bit of eye candy for David, just like Barry was eye candy to me and Brad was eye candy to Nathan. There was a huge chasm between ‘lust' and ‘love'. Unfortunately, there were a few bridges of temptation crossing that chasm. Fortunately, though, there was an enormous toll we would have to pay if we wanted to get to the other side, and only the bravest would dare cross them. I don't think any of us had the guts.
What a great metaphor! My mouth just hung open a while after that one. You're a master.

We were supposed to be changing our clothes so I could wash them, but Brad said, "Hey. Now that we're naked. . ."

He had a point. A minute or so later, I had a point, too. It was a lot of fun making them go away.
Even in solitude, I laughed out loud, but good. :rotflmao:

Uh oh. I don't even remember Vic. I wonder if Charles Dickens ever forgot who Mr. Tupper was?

Now you've done it, Frank. You'll have us chubbed just at the thought of the Hunk.

I hope that you can give us at least one more update - but I am now fully aware of what winters do to you. I wasn't really aware before. So I guess it may still be a while before the next update, which left off just before our "original" 2-person family gets together on Sunday morning WITH YOU, NEIL, IN PETERBOROUGH.

Yes, I've finished! What a long trek, with such wonderful [in]SIGHTS along the way. A trek, I must add, that I have thoroughly enjoyed - along with all the posts. How many people made their first-ever JUB posts in THIS thread? Thirty? Forty? That says a lot, because the number of threads in this site is massive.

If we never see another update (but we HAVE TO, NEIL, because YOU'LL BE IN IT!), I think that I, and a lot of other people here, can rest with an assurance that, yes, the family will spend their Christmas in a brand new home. I am guessing that Ted will eventually reach the full maturity that the younger Brad already has. And yes Ted is GETTING THERE, including occasionally *reminding himself*, publicly in front of all of us, of his former insecurities and control issues...which WILL REINFORCE him coming to full term with it all. I feel confident that the alternative universe (which presumably already existed), and the people you have added to it, will always be a good place to be...and that place is certainly better off for the people you've added to it. I even assume that the alternative universe will be blessed with Warren for years to come.

And Connie got kicked out.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful trip. (*8*)

Frank - just remember - the REAL date is 26 October. Pay no attention to the August(?) date.
(All will be made clear later, lol)
GOT IT!!! It works okay in the alternate universe.

That was the original plan. The story became really big really fast and converging timelines took a back seat. I blame it on the cliff-hangers.
Well, my dear Neil, those were all YOUR fault!

The comment would have been pretty much a follow-up to my own post. When I originally read the final appearance, I thought about commenting, but that "mission" got lost in the shuffle.

I hope this thread gets bumped every so often. I actually haven't paid attention to this Forum to notice how long a thread stays on the front page after its most recent post. Or of course YOU could bump it...with a really, really long post...haha.

I love reading the impressions of others as they experience this story for the first time.

For that alone it might be worth checking back every now and then.

I don't have anything to add in terms of discussion, I just wanted to drop by and show some love.

 to you, Neil.

I agree, just finished the story, tried my best not to read more than 10 chapters a day. I would love to see a few more chapters appear. This is one of the very best I have read online.

Welcome to JUB and the land of Brad and Ted and family, Kaforney.

You picked a great place to post your first post.

Neil is a great author - sadly, his back issues have made it very difficult for him to focus on his writing.
I hope you find his other stories here on JUB. None are of the magnitude of Watching Brad, but they are fun/exciting in their own respect.
