  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

We need a gay male superstar athlete to come out no offense Tom Daley.

So basically...
"No offense, Tom Daley, but get back in the closet! We don't want you because you're not masculine enough. We'd rather have some hockey or football players on our team!"
Hopefully some gay athletes of "faggy sports" are reading this so they know not to come out. :##:

I hope people realize that I was being sarcastic...

Um, Fuck no.

It's more like

"A gay football player could make people realize that gay men for the most part are no different from straight men, only difference is that they like other men instead of women."

It may be easier for an athlete who is not in a team situation to come out than one who is part of a team. Changing rooms and showers with the team will be awkward for those insecure team mates and that may make them react with hostility at someone who is out and within their midst when they're naked.

Its narrows down the types of sports in which an openly gay person would venture to come out in.

I assume that the quest for a superstar athlete arises from wanting the straight majority to believe that we're just like them except for what we do in bed, so that just as a Peyton Manning grew up with a straight orientation, he might just as well have grown up with a gay orientation. My point about gay pride parades is that if you want to show the straight majority you're just like them, you don't shut down streets and celebrate the ways in which you're not. The comparable ethnic parades--St Patrick's Day and Columbus Day--aren't like this at all.

I have only admiration for Tom Daly, and I think it's great what he did, but I don't feel we need superstar athletes. Or parades. It's more important for each of us to live our own individual lives as well, forthrightly and honestly as possible. Better many stars than a few superstars.

But we aren't "just like them".

Yes, Tom Daley is a diver he gets a lot of attention in the gay press because he's young and attractive. However, I've visited some UK sports forums and they aren't impressed.

In the grand scheme of things since Diving is an individual sport and Daley coming out isn't really that big a deal to the mainstream sport fan.

A gay man from a team sport who actually is a talented athlete would make a bigger social impact and difference.

Not some queen who dives in a speedo in an effeminate sport like diving.

This is why a gay football player from the English Premiere league or on the big European sports leagues must come out. Those guys would make a bigger impact in the UK and Europe than Tom Daley is ever going to.

It would prove to the straight majority that gay men can be masculine and good athletes. Tom Daley is extremely effeminate, nobody was shocked when he came out of the closet.

Tom Daley just confirms all the negative stereotypes about gay male athletes he's effeminate, talks with a high pitched voice he just personifies all the negative stereotypes about gay men.

That would be an incorrect message to send. The one we SHOULD be sending is that we are just as good and worth the same. Not trying to assimilate.

So do you by perpetuating it.

What you need is a Nicky Crane of athletics.

Nicky Crane was gay, a tough fighter, masculine, strong, and well 'respected' for his presence and determination.

He was also inducted into the Leader Guard, which served both as McLaughlin's personal corps of bodyguards and as the party's top fighters.

He was a nazi skinhead involved in beating blacks and public disorder during the 70's to 90's. Is this what you mean by not a 'queen in speedos'?

It sounds like you're asking for an American, possibly more successful Gareth Thomas.

I think it will be a very long time before we see a current NFL player come out. We saw that circus with Manti Te'o last year. He was just entering the NFL but he knew he wouldn't last long in that homophobic locker room. The whole story with the fake girlfriend of three years and the fact he kept changing his story over and over until meeting with lawyers and then "revealing" to the public that he had been catfished, which few people believed. That's the closest we are to a player being "out" in the NFL.

The NBA is right up there with the NFL as far as macho male, homophobia everywhere goes. Jason Collins coming out was nice and I was happy for him. But he's at the tail end of his career and he's off the bench. He's not the player you're going to see on ESPN 3 times a week. I vaguely remembered his college days at Stanford but completely forgot about him when he was in the NBA until he came out.

A talented and current player in his prime coming out in the NFL or NBA would be the biggest athlete coming out story in all of history but I still think it's a long way away.

Rhodes is one of the best players in the NFL YET he did not get signed to a team.
.

Unfortunately the case with Kerry Rhodes is one of the more blatant outcomes of what will happen to gay MASCULINE athletes should they reveal their sexuality. I believe RACE also plays a small factor in these matters. Black gossip media has torn Rhodes apart with homophobe baiting photos and articles that also allows the most vile comments I've ever seen. White gay media could give 2 fucks about athletes like Kerry Rhodes and Jason Collins. Neither of them are officially retired yet they are unemployed and ignored by the media.

Meh.

You know if Brad Pitt himself had come out during his prime, there'd still be people on here complaining they wanted a bigger star to follow.
No pleasing some people. It's almost as though once someone's out, they don't count anymore. Why?

There's no such thing as a biathalon. They're either a skier in denial, or a marksmen in denial..............

Or Scandinavian infantry planning special ops?

:D

LOL.. this made me laugh. I'm Scandinavian, and biathlon is a HUGE sport here. We have it on our national broadcasting channel every saturday and sunday morning during winter.

We need a hockey player from Canada to come out.

Your turn Sidney Crosby.
