Weirdest thing someone said to you when you told them you were gay.

I'm still a huge closet case, but this was an awkward situation for me.
There was this guy in my German class who dressed very well. He was going into business, and he dressed as a business man.. so I thought nothing of it. We were friends for the whole semester and on the last day:

*walking out of class*
*guy passes by*

Friend: "Ohh, that guy is hot."
Me: "What?"
Friend: "That guy. He's really hot."
Me: "Umm..."
*really awkward 5 second silence*
Friend: Yep, that's how I roll.
Me: .... oh... OH!!

Then we laughed.
I felt like a dumbass. I guess my gaydar sucks, I had no idea.

The only person who knows is my best friend. When I told her she said "I'm not surprised" and I said "I knew you wouldn't be." I'm really bad at acting straight apparently. Whenever I get a new job, or meet a new friend, after a while the subject comes up. Someone asks me if I'm gay infrot of a bunch of people. It's so frigin awkward. So then I have to lie and cover it up. The thing is, I'm really not flamboient, I think people see me looking at guys, and all my friends are pretty much girls, so whatever. Can't wait till I move cause then everyone will know, January 08'. I'm telling my parents then I don't care who knows.

When I first came out, I said I was bi. And one of my best girl friend told me that another friend of mine said, "I wish he was totally gay. I never had a gay friend before."

Finally, I told people I was gay, some things that were said:
Me: If I told you I was gay, what would you say?
Jacob: Why would you tell me? (then he giggles, we are still friends)
-----
Me: I'm gay.
Heather: *shocked, long pause* I just want to laugh.
------
Kyle: Me too.
Me: Really?
Kyle: No.
-------
Roberta: OMG! Your gay!
Me: OMG! Your black! (we have a very close friendship.. she though that was funny as hell)
Roberta: So, you do you think is hot?
-------
And, I don't know why, but this is the funniest one:
Justin: Dude, are you bi?
Me: No, I'm gay.
Justin: Really?
Me: Yea.
Justin: So you like the penis?
Me: Yep. I like the penis.
Justin: And you don't like to poochie?
Me: No.
Justin: Dude, your killing me.
Me: Ok.
Justin: I'm cool with it. I just wanted to here it from you.

mom: "fuck your stupid college and your stupid friends!!!!"

did not expect such an awful response
oh... it's been so wonderful since....

Wow, that's harsh. So, I assume it really hasn't be wonderful since....

That's really it. People often don't want to come out for fear of losing their friends, but you know, if someone will no longer be friends with you because you're gay then they are not really friends to begin with. My issue in coming out was that I was afraid people would treat me differently or be weird around me. And after I came out some people did, and that was fine. I had to realize that it was their own hang up. But for the most part, everyone was really cool and most of them knew already. I only had one friend who was weird with me after that. He kept apologizing for all the gay jokes he had made and every time he'd be talking about a hot girl he'd look at me and say something about maybe there would be a hot guy there too. I mean, he went out of his way to not offend me to the point of treating me like I was totally alien from him, which was worse. But even with the little bit of weirdness I had to deal with it was by far worth it to be out and open about myself.

And the funny thing is that you get so worried that the people around you will change when you come out, but the truth is that they will and you will. But change happens anyway. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad, but even when change happens for the bad it can make things better in the end.

Mine was quite some time ago but it stays with you. Me mam's first question was Did you already tell your Auntie Marie ? ( they were fiercely competitive sisters and it cracked me up ). When I told me Dad, there was a long anguished silence on both our parts and then he looked at me and said " You'll never have a days happiness..." which KILLED me, and then he launched into a rambling story how once during the war some chap made a pass at him and he hit him and pushed him down a flight of stairs.... I'm happy to say things got better, relatively speaking, and tho my wonderful mother is now gone, my Da and I are now great mates....

What is it with girls and shopping ... lols? Don't get me wrong, I like clothes and stuff, but I kinda "dislike" shopping.

haha, i dont mind the shopping bit. my friend said that a few days after i told her.

"owh, that means you wont mind going hoe shopping, right?? GREAT! i love you"

she tried to make me straight.

but her first reaction was
"we'll go to church right now, i'll ask the sisters for some holy water... you go home... drink... sleep, and when you wake up, you would like girls again. okay??"

we're catholics, so coming out, for me, is kinda hard. till today, only she knows. and i told her, when?? 3 months ago??

My mom: I KNOW you are gay dammit! now you F'in tell me right now because you are pissing me off and hurting my feelings. I KNOW who you are dating, ill make HIM tell me! I thought you trusted me son!

gotta love my mom! ..| (*8*)

My parents:

We never thought you'd be the gay one...We'd always had suspicions about your brother though.

A conversation I had with my mom:

Mom: Scott (a friend of her's for the past 10 years) finally came out to me.
Me: How long did you know about him?
Mom: I don't know... I've know about you since you were four.
Me: You knew since I was four and you didn't say anything?
Mom: No, why?
Me: You could have saved me a lot of time and trouble...

And this just happened last week - in the year 2007......

As the super at a high end condo complex, I am fixing a wall in a board members' master bedroom that was damaged by a faulty air conditioner:

Board member: (Phone rings) "Hello! I'm in my bedroom with our super"
Me: (after she hangs up phone) "Well, at least you know you're safe with me!"
Board member: "Why?"
Me: "Well..... because I'm Gay"
Board member: "You can't be Gay, you have children!"
Me: (silence..., then) "Madge, I gave a cocktail party for the entire board two months ago and introduced everyone to my partner....?"
Board member: "Oh!, I thought he was your business partner..."
Me: (silence..., then) "Madge, I was recommended for the job by Joe and Edward in the flat above me based on the work I did at a gay campground last summer...."
Board Member: "I thought that was the name of the campground"
Me: (silence...)
Board Member: "Wait! Joe's not gay, he has a son!"
Me: (silence...)
Board member: "Ohhhh, I thought Edward was his roommate...."
Me: (silence...)

When i came out to a few of my friends, i was at a friends house afater my Deb ball and one of them asked me straight up if i was gay and i said yes. she said prove it and they wouldn't beleive me till i made out with another friend of mine (also gay) then they all laughed and congratulated me. (*8*)

This was to my boss at college (im an RA in a college dorm). This was a few days after the Virginia Tech shooting and people were asked to wear the schools color's (orange and maroon) as remberance.

Me: Im not one to usually speak openly but may I?
Boss: Go ahead...
Me: I'm sorry but you have no sense of style.
Boss: What? ... What makes you think that?
Me: First off, this is supposed to be a solemn day and that shirt is way too loud. Secondly, you should not be wearing the ugliest tie I have ever seen and not to mention the tie only goes down to your belly button. Lastly, I'm sorry but that jacket that you love to wear does not look good on you.
Boss: You're kidding...right?
Me: Jay, taking pride in something is one thing but looking like a homeless person is not something you should. Have you seen yourself in front of the mirror?
(We walk to his room and he stands in front of the mirror)
Boss: Oh my God. You're right Steve. What was I thinking. Thanks.
Me: Another fashion victim saved.

Obviously he doesnt always dress this bad, but he does have a poor sense of fashion especially for such a hot guy. What a shame. This was also when he realized that I was gay, but being my boss, he can't "out" someone but I think he knew.

Damn. I think you're gonna need a hammer to break through that skull.

When I finally decided to come out to be best-friend we were returning from getting some beer, the conversation went something like this:

Me: I have something I want to tell you.
Him: Is it about your sexuality?
Me: Yes.

*he slams on the breaks nearly putting both of us through the windshield*

Him: Do you know what you're problem is with that? You don't know what you are!

Me: Yeah I do!
Him: What then?

Me: I'm gay.

*silence as he just stares at me*

Him: *smiling really big* That's great! Let's go home and you can tell my wife!

:D

My best (guy/straight) friend: "Oh yea, I told you I was too sexy."
A (girl) friend: "No! You're so sexy, and you listen to what I say. Oh wait."
Buncha friends: "No wonder you got best dressed."
