  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Well, who'd have thought

There are still many people who even deny that date rape exists, for Pete's sake.
(And, in both cases, when those people are presented with actual instances where it happened, they tend to react with "She was a slut and deserved it," even if they only say that under their breath.)

Date rape is a different topic, and it is rape. The advancement of an employee or underling in exchange for sex is not rape, which was the point made.

As for sluts, society on both sides of the gender aisle mutter that as courts disallow any allegations of moral turpitude when rape trials or accusations occur. Yet, we all see and know men and women who go to whoreish places to engage in whoredom. And it is hardly surprising that seeing that behavior jades the public when people who go to such places and such parties then become embroiled in mahem. Only so much naivete is tenable.

Yes, but there are some. In any field where there are far more well-qualified workers than there are jobs to give them -- the performing arts and humanities academia are the obvious examples, along with, to a somewhat lesser extent, broadcast media -- this kind of abuse by gatekeepers and other influential figures happens. And, sure enough, it's those fields that most of the stories we hear come from.

Just not buying that in every single lane to the top there stands a gatekeeper who is able and disposed to sexually exploit all comers. Bring charges, or disengage and go up another way.

And where it does occur, the decision by the rising ambitious STILL is an act of collusion.

If Harvey Weinstein were as handsome as Robert Evans he would never have been accused of anything. In all likelihood would have had to fight the aspiring actresses off.

Have you seen the pics coming out from Cannes? Some of these girls are just a couple of inches away from being naked. They shouldn't be surprised when powerful men believe they're an easy lay. They look like they are.

That is dangerously close to saying that they are asking for it. Which is the rapist's excuse

You're quite right of course; there's never any excuse for rape. It's not just Cannes though. Most British towns and cities on a Saturday evening are heaving with young girls dressed up as if they were attending a scrubbers' convention.

Yes, and in that case -- that case being that aspiring actresses were pursuing him -- what those people had would be consensual sex.

But Harvey Weinstein doesn't look like Robert Evans, and he forced himself on -- and into [shudder] -- some actresses using his 150-pound weight advantage to physically overpower them and then his power in the industry to intimidate them from accusing him.

Duh.

Well, of course. But women shouldn't complain when men look at the way they've chosen to dress and regard it as a come-on. Of course it is. Just as it is if a gay man goes to a club and takes his shirt off.

I actually believe that if Harvey Weinstein looked like Robert Evans and forced himself on women, they would have given him a pass. And if one of them came forward during the #MeToo hysteria she would have been given short shrift.
Weinstein was ugly--very ugly--and therefore an easier target. Easy to believe that he would force himself on a woman. Harder to believe with Evans.

So disgusting. No words.

A woman could walk totally naked into a crowd of men.

Still no excuse for one of them raping her.

But unsurprised that this is how you view it.

I note that Latimer did not suggest that the nearly naked girls attending Cannes should expect to be raped as a result of their lack of attire.

No. just that it is a come-on.

....women shouldn't complain when men look at the way they've chosen to dress and regard it as a come-on.

The same rationale that has been used in courts everywhere to excuse men for assaulting or raping women.

Meanwbile....

Phillip Schofield says he 'understands how Caroline Flack felt' in BBC interview.

In a new interview with the BBC’s Amol Rajan, Phillip Schofield said that he has “lost everything” following the news of his affair with a younger male colleague, stating that the fallout of the revelations have been “relentless”.

In his first interviews since leaving ITV and This Morning, Schofield said that if it wasn’t for his daughters, he “wouldn’t be here”, and drew comparisons between his situation and that of former Love Island host Caroline Flack, who took her own life in 2020.

I suspect that most people in Great Britain won't be happy until he's killed himself.

Schofield hasn't "lost everything" at all. A quick Google suggests his net worth is between £8.6 and £9.6 million. He's 61 years old. He can just retire and enjoy his millions.

I don't for one minute wish him dead. I doubt many people do.

I used to watch him on The Cube a while ago was shocked he was gay.

I didn't write that. Please don't put words in my mouth.

The big difference was that Flack couldn't face the fact she was to be punished for being an abuser.
Schofield is just in shock that he has fucked up his career. Two completely different things and really significant that he is trying to jump on her victim coat-tails for sympathy

Post @21 :)

I notice that Lorelei carefully avoids ending the last line of dialogue with a preposition.
