There are still many people who even deny that date rape exists, for Pete's sake.
(And, in both cases, when those people are presented with actual instances where it happened, they tend to react with "She was a slut and deserved it," even if they only say that under their breath.)
Yes, but there are some. In any field where there are far more well-qualified workers than there are jobs to give them -- the performing arts and humanities academia are the obvious examples, along with, to a somewhat lesser extent, broadcast media -- this kind of abuse by gatekeepers and other influential figures happens. And, sure enough, it's those fields that most of the stories we hear come from.
That is dangerously close to saying that they are asking for it. Which is the rapist's excuseHave you seen the pics coming out from Cannes? Some of these girls are just a couple of inches away from being naked. They shouldn't be surprised when powerful men believe they're an easy lay. They look like they are.

If Harvey Weinstein were as handsome as Robert Evans he would never have been accused of anything. In all likelihood would have had to fight the aspiring actresses off.
Well, of course. But women shouldn't complain when men look at the way they've chosen to dress and regard it as a come-on. Of course it is. Just as it is if a gay man goes to a club and takes his shirt off. You're quite right of course; there's never any excuse for rape. It's not just Cannes though. Most British towns and cities on a Saturday evening are heaving with young girls dressed up as if they were attending a scrubbers' convention.
I actually believe that if Harvey Weinstein looked like Robert Evans and forced himself on women, they would have given him a pass. And if one of them came forward during the #MeToo hysteria she would have been given short shrift.Yes, and in that case -- that case being that aspiring actresses were pursuing him -- what those people had would be consensual sex.
But Harvey Weinstein doesn't look like Robert Evans, and he forced himself on -- and into [shudder] -- some actresses using his 150-pound weight advantage to physically overpower them and then his power in the industry to intimidate them from accusing him.
Duh.
So disgusting. No words. If Harvey Weinstein were as handsome as Robert Evans he would never have been accused of anything. In all likelihood would have had to fight the aspiring actresses off.

Isn't it odd that, when their backs are against the wall, those caught either call racism or homophobiaSchofield has given an interview to the BBC.

Still no excuse for one of them raping her.
But unsurprised that this is how you view it.

A woman could walk totally naked into a crowd of men.
Still no excuse for one of them raping her.
But unsurprised that this is how you view it.
The big difference was that Flack couldn't face the fact she was to be punished for being an abuser.Meanwbile....
Phillip Schofield says he 'understands how Caroline Flack felt' in BBC interview.
In a new interview with the BBC’s Amol Rajan, Phillip Schofield said that he has “lost everything” following the news of his affair with a younger male colleague, stating that the fallout of the revelations have been “relentless”.
In his first interviews since leaving ITV and This Morning, Schofield said that if it wasn’t for his daughters, he “wouldn’t be here”, and drew comparisons between his situation and that of former Love Island host Caroline Flack, who took her own life in 2020.
I suspect that most people in Great Britain won't be happy until he's killed himself.
