Yup, that's always been my understanding. My ex understandably wore a jock when surfing because of a sensitive glans getting rubbed raw otherwise.

In winter I'd also put on my wetsuit naked, as I hated having a bunched up pair of shorts inside the wetsuit, causing bunching and binding.
