He said anarcho-capitalist. Very different from Adam Smith. Capitalism works to varying degrees. It does a spectacular job 90% of the time. The other bit is where capitalism fails the people due to market strangling by influential corporations, banks, hospitals, and through the actions of corrupt politicians in pay of the above.

There's a few areas were socialist ideas have proven useful. Healthcare, as the most visible example. But other utilities, mass transportation (or where a government owns a private company, e.g. Deutsche Bahn), public services etc. are common. One could even say that a nation's military is an example. It's paid for by all, with the express purpose of protecting all (or as has been recently demonstrated, protecting some)--a service. One that is usually more important to a government than the people. After all, it is directed in the governments interests.

There's no point in trying to reason with benvolio. His latest post shows once again that he hoists up straw men from his imagination rather than respond to what people say.

It's laughable that he fails to recognize that the US economy has been at its best when there was a great deal of what he calls "socialism" involved. It's even more laughable because what he calls capitalism requires what he calls socialism, because the capitalists he defends are very bad capitalists. Once again: Henry Ford shows what a capitalist should be, namely someone paying his workers as much as possible, so they can buy more tings -- especially his own products. Benvolio's version of capitalism is predatory and requires big government in order to exist -- in fact, what he calls capitalism is actually feudalism, because it reduces workers to serfs who can only survive due to a pittance of assistance from an overlord, i.e. the government.

So please point out where you bazzarro corporation ideas have risen above the level of your own ideosyncratic notions. Our economy is the most successful in the history of the world, so no, it is not just a theory.

That success today is largely being enjoyed only by a number of increasingly trans-national interests who have no vested interest in the short- or long-term well being of America or its people. It wouldn't matter if the U.S. were making 9 trillion trillion dollars a year if 99.9999999% of it was being funnelled into the hands of 6 people of various nationalities with offshore accounts and fingers in financial pies all over the world.

Pure GDP or whatever other gauge you want to measure is useless as a measure of success if you refuse to look at the distributive equality or real per capita gains realized by the people living and working within that economy. It doesn't matter how much more successful or wealthy the people who already have far more than they can or will ever realistically use become, their upticks in wealth benefit absolutely no one and nothing.

The lower income groups have high incomes compated to theother countries, but they are not allowed to progress economicaly as a group, because the dems have a vital interest in flooding country with unlimited numbers of poor people who will, given the chance, vote for democrat welfare, class hatred and socialism.

So in other words what you're saying is that your entire position is, and always has been, a complete crock. Because even if the market "forced" wages up through a combination of population control and ending immigration, that would place a "burden" on employers, who would therefore be completely justified in fleeing the country to operate in Qatar or UAE or India.

You don't want anything to change. Any change involving an improvement in life to the typical everyday American is "bad" for employers because it will place greater "financial burden" on them than they face today, no matter how you go about it. You've spent months on this board maintaining a position for which you never had the slightest bit of intellectual integrity about.

It would be less funny as well if there was absolutely any relationship between the jobs immigrants do and the jobs Americans want, or that the price of hired help for manual labor or agriculture or janitorial services plays any role whatsoever in the salary that a business executive or marketing agent or an HR manager or a teacher makes in the U.S.

We're supposed to believe that somehow if you cut off low-income immigration tomorrow the pay scale value of having a computer science degree or a business management degree would increase tomorrow, despite the fact that several millions of consumers who were not qualified nor competing for those job fields have just left the country.
