What are the biggest advantages of being gay?

In context of the question itself, I don't have a whole lot of ideas.. with gay people continuing to be disparaged and all. Although, avoiding unplanned procreation is a valid argument.

Addressing gender issues. Sure, women and men see things at a different angle. i'm not about to go into the shpiel 'women do this, men do this' what it comes down to in my humble opinion is there is a severe lack of respect across the board in society. Abuse is abuse whether misandric misogynistic. People only THINK they need to be married or in a relationship out of fear of being perceived a unhitchable/unfuckable curmudgeon and other forms of approval seeking through others which always seems to undermine themselves.

Without having read the topic, for me the biggest advantage of being gay today is the awareness of cultural and societal strife. We are much more open to compassion for oppressed people, much more understanding of what they are going through. And much stronger than most straight people because we had to fight to be who we are.

My answer back in 1979 was...I didnt' have to listen to C&W music!

...and then gay C&W line dancing came along and fucked that all up. I had to ask to be excused from working those nights and I changed my shift. It was funny because the whole drive up there on the second week of "line dancing" I tried to brainwash myself with positive affirmations ...but I only lasted an hour before I knew I could not take another night of it.

So..the best thing about being gay was shot to hell.

I think you're totally right-- but I'd have to make the added side note that this being the case (and making total sense) is the reason why the people who do not do this stand out more like a sore thumb, surprise me, and disappoint me. You've heard me say it in CE&P-- but I'm so disappointed in how many gay men, if the conservative spectrum of the U.S. changed only its stance on gay issues... would happily hop over and serenely overlook (or even agree with) the continuing problems that minorities, women or anyone else deals with.

also gay men are in a good position to do something about it. homosexuals are arguably the strongest political force in America, so to the world. just look at aids research and marriage equality and how much progress has been made in such a short period of time.
 
The smell....definitely the smell. I grew up with 4 sisters. It is true about women syncing periods. That time of the month two of the bathrooms in the house smelled like a cross between a morgue and the dross pits at a fish cannery. It was enough to make your eyes tear up.

I'm an athletic guy and have always gone for athletic guys and I've never been the germophobe sort of guy. So my place could get to smell like a lockerroom from time to time. Especially when I was young. I have since gotten more domestic. ha

Even the randiest smelly jock doesn't smell like a woman on the rag. It is the smell of death and rot. There is a reason we call them fish you know.

That only happens when women let used pads, tampons etc. stay in the trash can for a couple of days. Period blood doesn't smell until its been left out, mixed with air for a certain period of time.

Dont go spreading incorrect information to people.

And that syncing periods thing has proven to be a myth.

I am not spreading incorrect information to anyone. I was sharing a personal life experience. I don't know anyone that empties a trashcan every single day.

Just like guys don't really smell how foul they can be from time to time, I don't think women really can smell how much they just stink.

There are just as many studies that show of the synchronizing of certain female's periods in groups, as there are showing it not to be the case. It is more of how the study is conducted more than anything. You chose to believe they do not. I chose to believe that they do.

I am a gay man. I don't have any female friends. There are no fag hags or fruit flies in my life. There is no need for the encumbrance. I keep my interaction with my siblings at an absolute minimum.
