What surprises me most about these threads is how those who profess to not like the aesthetic of tattoos, and who wouldl never get one, always have some amazing in-depth knowledge of the psychology and mindset which goes into getting one. You all must have run some pretty extensive studies to collect your data
Side note: It's not always a matter of "going through" the pain, as often times, the pain in itself is an important part of the entire thing, and can actually be quite enjoyable. I know many people for whom the pain is a big part of the influence in wanting to get more work done.

… I discovered just how amazing and complex and beautiful and totally hot body art can be. …
You still haven't uploaded your picture of your new art so we can get an appreciation of it too.
How about this art?

Again...as I said...it must be really horrible to see the world through your eyes. The photos that you post in this thread are like opening a window onto a dark and troubled soul.

What I do have is in-depth knowledge of the psychology and mindset of a person who would never get one. I share that as freely as those who enjoy tattoos share their perspective. To me, the experience of pain is not rewarding, necessary or desirable; I prefer to avoid pain in life. The motivations I've heard are unconvincing (right of passage; means of self-expression, marker of life events, visible memory); I prefer to do those things mentally or verbally.
And the results on other people don't often seem spectacular or inspiring. It's a mixed bag. Symbolically, I reject the "permanence" as both illusory and undesirable. And I enjoy practicing the discipline of living within my body as it is, and as it can be autonomously, rather than when it is subject to someone else's craft. I'd caution against assuming people without tattoos don't get it or haven't reflected on it. For some it is a decision and a choice every bit as deliberate and thought-through as for those who have chosen to get one.
All that said, I do occasionally see one I like on others, mostly on the grounds of aesthetics.
Anyway, I can't always tell you why other people have tattoos, but based on what motivations some have shared, and my own understanding of myself, I can tell you why I don't have one.

^ You kids doth protest too much!
You've been enjoying me for over two and a half years and you haven't even bothered to lift your finger onto the ignore button.

As I told you from almost the beginning...I will never take my eyes off of you...because when others may be willing to stay silent in the face of some of your ugly ideas and opinions....and have allowed you in the past to join forces and support myriad of destructive trolls on JUB over the past few years....I will not. I want to know what seeds you are sowing here.
If you think this is bad, peek in at some of Telstra's threads.
… but he doesn't have a fraction the vindictive, bigoted streak of Pat Grimshaw.
..I don't have the stomach .. and have him on ignore....
As I told you ...I will never take my eyes off of you......I will not. I want to know …
