Although smoking outside of The Cuckoo's Nest in Amsterdam is kind of fun.

I didn't think I remembered the names of any of the Amsterdam bars I'd been in, but after some searching on Google maps (which is what I'm doing now before anyone says off topic!) I've found one where we had a great time chatting to the American barman and some of the locals and drank more beers than we'd intended. It was Het Elfde Gebod in Zeedijk. Know it?

I come by there, but never in it.

The number of gay bars on Zeedijk has shrunk to two and I'm not so sure about the second one.

Even the first one is not so gay anymore.

In the Queen's Head, on Sunday a local group of bears meet, and I go and see them sometimes.

This is bringing back memories. We had a beer at the bar across the street from the Queen's Head, called Our Corner according to street view, and sat on the bench outside. The clientele at the Queen's Head appeared uniformly middle aged, bald and cloney. Gave it a miss.

When was this? Fifteen years ago it was a gay bar called De Engel. Much more fun. Also there was a bar called De Barderij, which I thought had a boring clientele, but that changed hands and then was closed by the police.
