  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What are you doing right now?

About to leave for the buddy's place in Brooklyn. Trying to decide whether to take the East River ferries or the subway as usual.

Rain started in earnest, so our al fresco dinner with friends has been delayed until tomorrow.

Just as well. I was tuckered after the work today and smell like brush fires.

Now just catching up on the latest in Ukraine and my litters at Tiny Kittens in between the Sunday afternoon calls to the Aunties and Sis.

My phone scared the hell out of me by reminding me to take out the trash. I never used that before

I'm just resting tonight. Earlier today and last Friday I volunteered at my local genealogical society library. For the last two weeks I've had to cover the shift by myself since the other guy is out sick. I don't know what's wrong with him, but I'm concerned, because he didn't look good for the last several weeks. Oh well, as it turns out, no one came in to do research either today or last Friday.

But I have been doing research. I found the guest book for my parents' wedding. So I've been doing something like genealogical research, only I'm tracking down who the people were on the guest list and the gift list. I tracked down a good friend of my Mother, but made some assumptions that hampered my research until I found my mistakes. For instance, I assumed the woman was a classmate of my Mother's, it turned out she was older. Also, I had assumed the man who appeared with her in the guest book was her husband, he turned out to be her father. I finally tracked them down in the 1950 Census, and it turned out she was listed with a first name I never heard my Mother Call her by. Once I made the corrections, everything fit. Also, I noticed that a certain family surname appeared a lot. I did some tracking on them, and found out a couple of them were married to some distant relatives of my Mother. I actually had to track them down by going all the way back to the 1880 Census, and then going forward to find the son of an older brother to tie that family together. There were still two people with that same surname that I have yet to find out how they're connected. And there were a couple of other interesting discoveries that would take some time to explain, but they fall into the category of Wow, they were there?

And so on.

^ Picture(s) of Preston please? \:/

When he was a baby only a FEW MONTHS AGO (little toesies sticking out at the bottom).

Next one is of him with the husband NOW (Ignore husband's "comfy" shirt 😑).View attachment 3376457View attachment 3376459
Yep! If he wished, y'all could be lunch!
I recently read an article (somewhere) that claimed if domestic cats were big enough, they'd kill their owners. Cat people I've asked agree!
Thing is, we love our cats and dogs!
Best to Preston!

Awww, Preston sends his love back. Our other dog Griddle, also wanted to send her love (she runs to Russ, her favorite dad, when she thinks she hears cat goblins. She's a firm believer that cat goblins are real and snow isn't).

Just putting a list together of what I have to do. Pick up Salt and Sand for the winter. Early storm coming through, not affecting me, mostly rain, but may get a dusting, it was a reminder to get ready. Also, I will need to schedule to get an inspection sticker for my car as it is that time of year and do some food shopping on Wednesday. Eating Ghirardelli chocolate peppermint bark squares, only comes out this time of year.

On my way to conference for next 2 days....and just knowing that people will create one crisis after another while I can do little to solve the problem.

Trying to think of what to have for dinner later...if I am feeling up for it, I might hit an oyster bar or something.

It's 9F°! (That F stand for Freaking!) We're freezing our nads off close to outside walls and windows! It's not drafty. They're that cold!
The new furnace is doing better than the old one. Still ... I'm not a fan of Arctic vortexes!
The jet stream has sagged too far south! It's too early for this to be happening!
