What are you having for dinner tonight?

Roast chicken, sage and onion stuffing, roast potatoes, roast sweet potatoes, mange tout, carrots, broccoli, chocolate cheesecake to follow.

TONIGHT: Some potato salad, some macaroni salad, and "fusion soup":
diced pork roast and its broth (leftovers), with about 1/3 of a small jar of Heinz turkey gravy added.

Added and made into soup: spatezle [Germany], whole wheat noodles, roasted buckwheat [Russia], mung beans [tropical Asian], seaweed [Japan], a couple spices.

The buckwheat is actually imported from Russia...

Tuesday AND Wednesday night: steamed veggies, and...for the first time EVER at home in Illinois...about 1 1/2 pounds of pan-fried lake perch. The "utmost" of the wonders of fish, and there's no known "entree" food that I like more. (Entree in the American sense, of course, meaning the "main course" - NOT in the European sense, which is analogous to our "appetizers" and actually makes hella more sense.) It's expensive, so few places carry it, but I found it last week for sale (frozen) in Peoria, the first time I've ever seen it southwest of Chicago, and even recent trips in Chicago I could find none to buy and bring home. The last time I've ever had lake perch at home was 1985 or earlier when I was living in Toledo, Ohio.

It still wasn't as good as the lake perch that I can get in Markesan, Wisconsin...but even frozen it came out better than what I've had in most restaurants where I've had it.

Tomorrow night (Friday): Actually, a little bit before 6PM. The sixth of seven weekly Lenten catfish meals at the Catholic church. It's the only time of year that it's possible to get really good fish in this town.

All this said, fish is by far my favorite meat - but it's just hard to find here. Salmon is as good as it ever gets here, for the "good kind" of fish, but my cooked salmon is surpassed by the church catfish. That's one big change I look forward to in Chicago, where I'll be able to get good fish very easily.

Just had shrimp and caviar sandwich a moment ago. The proper dinner time is postponed due to a longer sleeping time.

A TURKEY is in the oven, hooray!! The other day I found a turkey that was not a Butterball, for the first time in months. (I don't like Butterball turkeys.) I've been looking for months. It's actually some of the most efficient things that I can cook, because I end up getting ingredients for "tons of meals" from a turkey.

We had fish, white rice and stirfry veggies.
