Attention What are you having for dinner?

I made Osso Bucco today for the first time. Really marvellous. I plunked in some quartered potatoes after I took the meat out. Just sampled today. Will have a full plate with sides tomorrow.

Before and after:

Chilli. Not very fitting for Christmas, but I was alone (kike usual), so it was hard giving a fuck about doing anything more than a fast dinner.

When I was a kid, our family had the big turkey and fixens meal spread for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Then the Sunday after Christmas (very close to New Year's Day) we would get together with the aunts, uncles, and cousins for a chili meal spread including hot (warmed up) apple cider and hot Dr. Pepper.

Turkey dins leftovers.

Last night was a break to finish the mac and cheese from earlier this week.

For New Years Eve made ribs...

Meaty and tasty! Unfortunately I am only talking about ribs.

I had an open-faced roast beef sandwich from some of the leftovers of the Osso Bucco.

Wednesday afternoon, I was running a stump grinder to rid my yard of some roots that are obnoxious whenever I mow, but while I was doing it, I had a cheesecake in the oven, the only one I made in 2025, I think. It was a combination of a recipe for some mini cheesecakes I found in Charles Baddour's "Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow" cookbook, from the 1980's, but one of my old reliables.

To that recipe, I added some lemon zest, and yuzu juice, and set in a cashew crust of my own devising. It looked perfect when pulled from the oven, and cooled several hours, then went into the fridge. I slept early last night, so woke just now and had to try a piece. Getting it out of the springform pan proved a challenge because I remembered too late to butter the ring, but it did come out, but left some crust along the ring. I scraped that out, chopped it, and used it as a crumb topping.

Also, I had made a yuzu pastry cream on Tuesday to use with puff pastry, but used it atop with a layer of sour cream just beneath. It turned out the best I've ever made.

Nice looking cheese cake but it brought about my first Google word look up of 2026...

Yuzu.
