  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Attention What are you having for dinner?

I sauteed some tilapia loins, then threw in a stir fry packet with rice and shrimp and ginger at the end. Finished it with a squeeze of lemon or two. Was very good.

Dessert was a berry crumble I had frozen months ago, but brought back in the oven, topped with whipped cream. Was a good day to end so.

This is Vannie's partner Philip. Unfortunately I have some bad news. Friday night Vannie gorged himself with stuffed cabbages and hard boiled eggs.

He was in the second floor bedroom around 9pm and farted so violently that he blew himself clear out the window into the empty swimming pool below.

He didn't make it. R.I.P. my Love 😢

Thanks to everyone that friended Vannie over the years. Especially all you stuffed cabbage lovers.

Everyone is breathing a sigh of relief that he is not in pain and suffering or backed up and constipated.

A couple of grilled boneless pork chops. Dillons (Kroger) had them on sale 10 for $10. They were a little tough but i may have over cooked them (I used a temp gauge). I'm gonna try baking a couple of them next.

Then the rest will go into the slow cooker with a can of cream-of-something soup. Maybe I'll cut up the slow cooker chops so the finished product will be easier to freeze and reheat.

My smothered pork chops in the slow cooker were much better than the 2 chops I grilled.

I don't know anything about problems keeping pork moist, but I recall James Beard commenting about deteriorating meat quality (beef in that case)\, and it was taste he mentioned) in a book published 1980-something. I can only imagine things have gotten worse since then.

Interestingly, Kroger got mentioned earlier in this thread, someone I talked to recently commented how he preferred Safeway over the meat from a grocery store part of Kroger, although it was some appearance issue. But when quality really mattered, he skipped all the major chain stores.

I bought some Campbell's Chunky vegetable soup on sale, and I had a can. Fast, warm meal for a coldish fall day. Then, there was whole wheat bread and a banana. Then some anti-oxidant rich raspberries, which I hope imparted their healthy qualities to the Bismarck they were baked in.

I died and only LoveMyPeppermill was sad!!!

I had some Chicken Fried Rice and for the first time I'm not 100% sure it was chicken.

He was sad about there being no more stuffed cabbage.

Back in the 80s the best place to buy meat around here was the local convenience store chain. They all had their own butcher, bought locally raised beef, and took specialty orders. I think Walmart and quickie-mart gas stations were the end of the franchise, there’s only a few stores left around. I worked at one in high school.

I was so devastated that I couldn't muster the strength to click Sad !

I made vegetable soup--which will likely be a regular menu item for the next six cold months...
