  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Attention What are you having for dinner?

Brown rice and lentils with mustard greens, jalapeno, and cheese.

This afternoon I ran across an Egyptian street fair. Street fairs around here used to be hopping and festive and several blocks long; this was a scrawny little affair taking up two-thirds of one block. At least the Egyptian music they were blasting was pretty good.

I got a bowl of koshary to take home. I have a feeling it can be more interesting than this bowl is. I ate about half of it; the rest I'll add to my ginger chicken soup.

@Vannie, the chutney works better than I dared hope. Absolutely delicious. And it's good on grilled cheese sandwiches, too.

Swad brand Bombay Sandwich Spread. Should be available at any decent market where Indian groceries are sold (including regular old Trade Fair supermarkets in Queens).

Sounds good. So many things you can use chutney's on or with. Yum. I used to always do the baked wheel of Brie wrapped in Phyllo and serve it with a good mango chutney and/or some fig jam and some fresh made toast points.

My Nephew and wife brought us these huge wraps. They had grilled chicken and black beans and a bit of rice along with shredded lettuce and tiny dice of tomato. And a spicy but not crazy slightly sweet sauce. They were good.

You can also likely find Deep Foods, Mirch Masala Coriander chutney in your areas too.

Very little of Deep's stuff ever turns up in my neighborhood. I've seen a couple frozen chicken curries from Deep at CVS (of all places), but that's it. I could probably find it in Jackson Heights, though. The desi community in Astoria is almost entirely Bangladeshi, so If there's desi food that I can't get here (papad/papadam is a good example), it's probably because Bengalis don't tend to eat it.

I just made a huge strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie in the Vitamix. I drank the whole thing.

Who wants to rub my belly?

Lower lower!!!

Had a Cheesy Jalapeno Bacon burger at McD's. The cheddar cheese sauce needs some kick to it. You would think taking a bite of the sauce with a jalapeno slice would be spicy enough.

I have two broccoli crowns along with a small head of cauliflower and three small zucchini that all need to be used.

Definitely something vegetarian. :)

I'm smoking a beer can chicken.
I first boiled the beer with thyme, rosemary, and garlic and I poured it into a ceramic thing that acts as the "beer can". Put the ceramic on a preheated pellet grill with cherry pellets, put the bird on that and rubbed it down with a mix of rub and olive oil.

My husband and I will enjoy it with some baked sweet potatoes. Should be good.

It's so warm out.

Did a quick marinated Tonnino tuna chick pea and cubed potato cold salad. Added some slivers of red onion along with crushed red pepper and and oregano and a dressing of red wine vinegar and extra virgin olive oil.

Spooned it into some butter lettuce leaves and pigged out.

Meow.
