  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What are you reading right now?

Going off on a little trip next week and got this as airplane reading. I couldn't get a flight on CometAir, so I'm bringing my own entertainment.

My coworker and I agree that The Assault on Reason is the best political title on the shelves right now. It's such a "fuck you" title.

I'm reading "Why Choose This Book?"

It's about how people make decisions. It's pretty cool...definately recommend it...the guy rights in a way that's really easy to understand and fun to read!

Planet Simpson by Chris Turner.

It's an analysis of the impact of The Simpsons on popular culture, written by an ardent die-hard fan. It makes some interesting points, but I do feel it is loaded with bias - you get the impression that he could stare at a still from the show for half an hour and manage to rave about it anyway, even though some parts of the work are quite critical of the show.

Reading: Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke

a great book

weirddddd. I'm reading that right now too! It's amazing thus far, and so cheap at Barnes & Noble.

Also on my shelf...

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
Hey! Nostradamus by Douglas Coupland

and a reread of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

"Vanishing Acts", by Jodi Picoult.

I just recently finished another of her novel's - "My Sister's Keeper" - it's very good.

I read Vanishing Acts a few weeks ago - I thought it came together well, but... I'm not expecting an 'all wrapped up neatly' ending, but I didn't like the closure with her and her best friend. Rawr.

So far this month I've read:
Goat: A Memoir by Brad Land
A Thousand Spendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

Currently I'm reading:
Dispatches from the Edge: A Memoir of War, Disasters, and Survival By Anderson Cooper

Next I'm going to read:
Secrets Of A Gay Marine Porn Star by Rich Merritt

Decided to hop on the Harry Potter train to Hogsworth. I've read the first and third books. I have to go and find the second. I have 4, 5 and 6 to go. I'll borrow the 7th when my daughter's done with it.

I'm re-reading two books at the moment:
The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub
Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt
