  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What did you have for dinner?

We went to Ruby Tuesday. Had the Memphis Dry Rub Baby-Back Ribs with fries, onion rings and the salad bar. It was great.

This was one of those days (Saturday) when I choose to eat something very unhealthy.

Family style (all you can eat) mashed potatoes and gravy, tossed salad (raspberry vinaigrette dressing), cole slaw, deep fried corn fritters, green beans...and A LOT of fried chicken! At a restaurant in Peoria IL. Well, three of these things are healthy, but the huge helpings of chicken negated that out of the ballpark.

Well -- this was our lunch AND dinner today...

Mashed potatoes with burnt flour gravy (made with vegetable stock), corn and steamed asparagus...

It was SO MUCH that I couldn't even finish... :rotflmao:

Nothing fancy, but a pretty typical meal for us...

Roasted Chicken, Mashed potatoes were the first course.
The veggies are now done - oven roasted Parsnip, Carrots, onions, drizzled w/ extra virgin olive oil and sprinkled w/ celery seed.
Plus some 1% milk.

Large Sashimi set. It'was free!! I dont pay a penny :D
I am amazingly envious. I have to spend so much on Sushi and Sashime because it does not fill me up. Seriously I get the 26 piece platter and then go to dinner....

Swervy that looks delicious. I haven't seen those kinda corn holders since I was like 12. Coool

I made marinated chops with roasted carrots, Brussel sprouts, and butternut squash... yum

The FUNNY thing is that NEITHER of us have EVER bought dishes...

They're all hand-me-downs from either our parents -- or, in the case of the plate under the corn, my oldest sister...

I believe Jawk-y was referring to the yellow 'handles' you stuck on the head and tail of
the Corn Cob to facilitate eating the corn in a fairly fastidious manner.

The salt cellar is a match to my grandmothers...rip...3 for salt, 3 for pepper
summer patio dining.

Side dishs look edible, wheres the protein?

Our administration and transportation departments prefer to get their protein from the source.

We've got lots of those corn holders - and a set of ironstone corn dishes designed just for corn on the cob.

I wondered about the protein portion of the meal - even though the gravy was made from stock, and the corn was smothered in butter.

Someone who knows about parsnips!

Can't find them anywhere around here and they're great in crock pot stews. Crock pot stews on a chilly day are the best thing you can make.

EDIT:

For dinner tonight we fended for ourselves..... I had leftover tuna sandwiches and potato salad.

In the Uk parsnips are a winter veg not consiered best until the ground they are in has been frosted. Love roasted parsnips with a roast dinner!

I have to buy some and roast them. They sound great roasted.

Parsnips are a Winter vegetable, and they do get sweeter if not harvested until after a frost.

Our Wegmans Grocery stores carry them. We have a lot of storage capacity for fruits and root vegetables around here - our region is a HUGE Apple growing region in the country.

When we buy Parsnips and Rutabaga it's "pop quiz" time at the checkouts because most of the kids don't know what they are.

They are great roasted or fried. We use them in Pot Roasts, Legs of Lamb - any time we are getting into the "Fall Harvest" mood for food.

It seems odd to be getting fall fever so soon... but I gots it... although tonight I will grill some johnsonvilles and corn

Parsnips...rutabagas...squashes...
