  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What do you like in a queer LGBT film? Got a favourite?

If a movie has a good story about 'real' people, is well acted, and I can relate to it in some way, then that's my kinda movie. Doesn't matter whether it's gay, bi or straight themed. But speaking of gay themed, I watched this one on Tubi last night. Excellent, well acted movie (French, subtitled) but it had me crying buckets at the end ...

Not so much a movie, more an autobiography made with a camera. The events are all true.

For an innocent boy like me, the sight of gay sex on the big screen, actual, not simulated, had my eyes popping out. It was a long time ago.

Has anybody ever seen one from the 90's called "Lie Down With Dogs?". Like too many LGBT films, the plot carried little more weight than a Facebook post, but there were a couple incredible funny moments. One involved the main character getting pissed off at a woman who crumpled and tossed a flyer he had just handed her and another had something to do with hamburgers.

I feel I must sully this parade of romance and gleeful gay discovery with one of the most perverse and disturbing films I've ever seen. I'd post the synopsis but I don't think JUB would allow it.

Yeah...that is pretty dark. For something lighter than that there is the maligant homoeroticism of Passolini's 'Salo'

It's an excellent movie, especially if you speak German and understand the German way of living.

Many gay issues are dealt with in a completely honest way.

My later love Jack called this movie: "What Happens When You're an Arsehole.".

Y'all should just have to see it yourselves.

The Wedding Banquet. I highly recommend it. And it's much better than the trailer:

I'm sick of the tired old tropes: romance, hustling, oppression and AIDS. Makes one wonder if that's all gay culture is about. How about one about a porn star and his heteroflexible friend who are forced to smuggle condoms full of dope across the border . . . only those condoms aren't filled with dope; they're filled with bugs whose bite causes a narcotic-like hallucinations. Things go downhill, to say the least, when one of them is punched in the gut by a homophobic redneck at a rest stop. Best of all, the big bad villain drug lord is a middle-aged swishy queen. Hilarious.

It's billed as a horror film, but it works better as a melodramatic love story.

This is exactly what I wanted. To be introduced to some new ones and reminded of ones I either haven't seen in forever or forgot I need to see! So thank you all.

I don't know. Looks grim. Reminds me of Splinter:

BTW. I found 'Call Me By Your Name', bloated and verbose to the point of not liking any of the characters.
But I also wanted to mention one I absolutely loathe. This insipid excuse for a gay comedy is the most cringe inducing bore fest I have ever hadf the displeasure of seeing.

The funny thing is that the overwhelming majority of positive critiques those two pieces of crap received came from virtue-signaling straight people who’ll label any gay flick as “groundbreaking” and “incredible,” be it true or not.

I have it on DVD. I've watched it several times. Mostly to see how they handle filming fake twins, and the nudity ain't bad. LOL

It's a fun watch, though. Strange story.
