What Do You Think Of Gaybars?

Gay bars use to scare the hell out of me. That I would never dream of going to one until one day I was on the net when I decided fuck it I am going check one out got in my car drove up to West Hollywood and walked up Santa Monica Blvd in the Rain. Walked past all the bars Met Soilwork for the first time. Then I was going to give up and go home got to my car. Was about to start it up and go home with my tail between my legs so to speak. When I thought to myself fucked got out walked back and went in and had one beer. Hey it was a start. Now From time to time I close bars down and all kinds

Gay bars freak me out, too.

I just get so nervous even thinking about going into one.

I live near West Hollywood, so I need to get some balls and just go, with friends or not.

From the sound of some of your experiences, at least I will have some stories to tell.

Maybe if I could find a gay bar just like a regular pub one finds in the pastoral countryside of merry olde somewhere, I might enjoy them.

But even a friendly gay bar tends to be, at the end of the day, a pick up place on some level.

Three of the bars I frequent are, for the first five hours or so they're open, very much like "a regular pub one finds in the pastoral countryside of merry olde somewhere": People come in to grab a pint, chat, joke around, read, play chess, go online, whatever. That's one of the things I love about them. ..|

As for what a gay bar tends to be at the end of the day... well, don't stay to the end of the day! :D I frequently don't.

Well....

the bartender (I'm here 'cause it's his last day -- he's moving to greener pastures) is cute and friendly, the garage door that's usually a wall is open to let fresh air in (it's in the upper 60s out there!). The music is okay, the beer is good, the company is copacetic, and the wireless connection is superb.

After a bit I'm gonna buy the bartender dinner....

I am horrified by the stories I hear about gay bars, like that you go to the restroom and there are groups of guys screwing each other without protection, barebacking, etc. That is extreme and digusting and I want no part of it.

THA

I don't know what's funnier.. that he believes that or that he said he's "horrified" like a little old scandalized lady.

well of course YOU have.. you're a very very naughty man.

but you also don't hang out at Rage or Fiesta or The Abby or The Factory.

I mean, they have washroom attendants at those places.... not orgies.

OK.. but you dont' fuck in the bathrooms.

I assume.

I DID once make out with some guy at The Abbey just because he looked like Steve Buscemi in one of the banquets... but no barebacking.

I mean, I'm not a TOTALY pervert.

The gay bar I go to is basically just a dancing club. Guys and straight girls and lesbians and some straight guys all dancing together. No sex, just sexual tension.

I guess it just depends on where you go. Some places are going to be seedier, some are oging to be highly sex-based, and others are just there to give people a good place to dance and have fun.

I'll tell you the best gay bar I ever went to wasn't even really a bar.

It was a small cabaret theater where they'd play dance music on the weekends. People would jsut clear the tables and dance on the stage and stairs to the balcony... it was a total free-for-all. Twinks, Bull Dykes, Queer Core Punks, Goths, Bisexual Three-way relationships, TRansexuals, Drag Queens, Bikers, College Football Players.. we'd all be dancing together in a big cluster.

Best bar ever.

MAN, I miss that place.

Faultine and MJs Dont worry I came prepared.....oh I am not telling you which bathroom in MJs figure it out yourself:cool:

If we could please stay along the lines of the topic at hand. I know there's a certain ebb and flow to threads, but the left-field personal attacks and rants need to stop.

I have been told so many times to head to The Abbey. "You need to go to The Abbey, Marc, for fuck's sake, you will love it!"

I'm going to take your advice, Jory and go. :gogirl:

I wonder if will have a hard time getting in...

Guys, this is a volatile subject. We're in the process of cleaning this thread up. Remember, this is a No Flame Zone. Personal squabbles and attacks will be deleted.

If we can't stay on topic and do so in a civil way, we'll have to close the thread.

Thanks.

no really..

they have these tux-wearing guys handing out hand soap and towels and cleaning the place every few minutes.

It's kinda weird.

but hey... LA.. you gotta love it.

Gay bars, from my experience, are like straight bars. I've only been to one straight bar but the gay bars I went to were pretty unspectacular. There was little sleaziness and they were more like places where you hung out with your friends as everyone stuck to their own groups. However there seems to be a pattern of grumpy, sour-faced bar-tenders in the bars that I go to. I'm still searching for that down-to-earth, friendly, welcoming bar with decent music. I have been to one club but it was full of cheesy dance crap and straight girls with their boyfriends.
