  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

What does everyone think of Sioux Falls SD

Why would you want to live there when a few miles to the SE there's a state where you can get married?

Well, living there is safe.

I haven't seen much of a hint of big-city-type cultural diversity, though. I like my cities large enough to have neighborhoods of expatriates or other ethnic groups - such as an Italian area, a Korean area, a Jewish area, or some other fill-in-the-blank. When I've visited there and looked for events, I don't see anything like foreign-film festivals, visiting symphony orchestras, anything like a world-class museum, national conventions, etc.

I ended up in a small city for many years, because living cheaply was one of the big goals, due to massive amounts of storage that I required. However, that won't rule in my retirement...I will instead want to be in a place where there are fun things to do. Both Sioux Falls and this town I live in are cultural backwaters, with very little happening that is at all extraordinary or special.

It IS a friendly town, but that's not enough to make me want to live there.

But winters are far more brutal in Sioux Falls than here. I don't think I'll be moving there anytime soon.

But J, where did your question come from? Are you thinking about relocating?

SD has WI beat on alcoholism and drunk driving...

^ That's useful....

What an incredibly silly comment. Back up what you say with links and facts.

Packers suck wind! (No link needed for that - it's a universal truth)

I don't think they technically have us beat. I'm not going to look up any info, though.

Despite California's problems, I wouldn't trade living in San Diego for any other place. I've been to every state except Alaska, and each has its charm and good qualities, but there is only one place that I can ever call home.

I spent one night in Sioux Falls in 1977. I was on a family car vacation with my parents and brother, and we were on our way to Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone National Park. I was thirteen at the time.

The motel was part of the Best Western chain and very nice. I remember that it was located on the "Business I-90" route. We left for Rapid City (gateway to Mt. Rushmore) the next morning. That's all I remember of it.

i used to live in rapid city, and although the landscape is beautiful, i dont think i could live in south dakota again. i felt so out of touch with everything because i lived on base and everything in town was at least 15 minutes away. it was nice to be able to go hiking in the black hills and to go see Mt. Rushmore and the currently in progress crazy horse monument. and from the pics i have seen, they havent gotten much more done of it.

Um it's the best place to live in if I were only restricted to living in SD IMO lol. But there are a bajillion other cities in the US that I'd rather live in before Sioux Falls.

^like...Vancouver WA? Washington that is not WA..

Hmm not sure if I'd live in Vancouver, WA. Isn't it basically a suburb of Portland, OR? I'd rather just live in Portland, OR then. And ya I'd totally live in DC. I am pretty sure DC is in my "Top 10 Cities I'd want to live in, if I lived in the US" anyways.

Why?

What is the point of that?

Do you gain somehow by having this?

i never even think of sioux falls, too hard too spell...

It is a dreary shithole but a great refuge for white closeted men.

When I went there at 7 years old to visit a grandparent, there was an earthquake... Needless to say I am biased:rolleyes:

Like any place to live, it has it's pros and cons.

It's relatively safe and inexpensive to live there. Low taxes, low unemployment, good schools and hospitals. Shopping and restaurants are plenty. Most all the chain stores and restaurants are there. It's easy to get a good paying job. Population is about 150,000.

However, there's the remoteness of South Dakota, long winters, it's very conservative ..... and only one gay bar.

There are better places to live and worse places. I would rather live there than Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, St Louis and several other places.

I have friends there and have visited several times.

Absolutely.

Give me a culturally diverse city any day of the week.

Of course you gain by it.

Obviously you've never lived in a diverse city or travelled extensively.

New York. Toronto. London.

The best cities are those that have a cross section of the world's population.

I never really thought about Sioux Falls, SD before. If I'm going to move out of the northeast it's going to be to go to Florida, the southwest, or California.

I'm not a fan of winter at all.

SioUX Falls

Wa could be ok...a bit cool but on the right side of the counry.

Western NV.....Tahoe is great period.

California......yeah it ain't cheap, but some times,

you want to see something for your money..........

even if it takes a bit more.
