Modern representative democracy, the rule of law, free enterprise, THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION, and much of science. Sure others contibuted a bit here and there but England put it together. Read a history of science and you will see the massive contribution. Newton, Darwin, Faraday and many more. No country has contributed more to science. They took the lead in ending the international slave trade, including the muslim slave trade within Africa itself. The were leaders in exploration--even Prince Henry the Navigator was half English. Which are the countries you admire most? I am guessing several will be countries settled by the English; Canada, Australia, New Zealand and England itself. Where they have gone, the have established representative government. Barbadoes in the Carribean for instance, has had a parliament since 1630 or so. It became the leading Protestant country freeing Europe from domination by the Catholic clergy. Perhaps the US was its greatest accomplishment, as it started with representative government from day one, was the second country with the industrial revolution and quickly became the greatest economy on history. Much of your thinking is the result of the English culture.

No to diminish England, but wasn't Ancient Greece the pioneers in most of these things?
