What a truly despicable television ****** My already not very high IQ was lowered by at least thirty points by watching the embedded video on that page.

Watching? By watching? I could understand "by listening to" (I hardly ever watch TV with the sound on, even old movies)..: the only TV I listen to is that which is delivered to me in specific clips that I find, for some reason, interesting or simply bearable

IQs are low because people talk too much to each other... and when they are done, they keep talking even more to themselves.

Why seem Americans so obsessed with protecting their scalps from the sun with wigs and caps, but then they do not seem to care about letting the rest of the skin around their heads get screwed by it?

The key to the mystery is that it isn't about protection but fashion.

No, a habit would probably provide the practical sun protection you're advocating but damn, nun fashion is just weird.

NO! A habit is something you do without thinking about it, not questioning it but not taking it seriously, either: you were hinting more at some more serious, like a rule, than a habit

That author I mentioned back in #8299 has now used another expression I had to Google. :x

He mentions visiting a lesbian who wears fur coats and a low brimmed solar topee which conceals her 'Becky Sharp eyes'. She whispers like someone at the Judas-trap of a monastery'.

Google tells me that the heroine of Becky Sharp has green eyes. It has a Judas door but no Judas-trap.
