Couples begin applying in Florida in one month. This is very exciting and I will be in Miami that week to witness it.

Finland's marriage initiative was approved by a special committee last Wednesday on a perfunctory vote and could received a final vote in parliament this Friday, December 12.
Though for whatever reason, probably due to the need for additional legislation, couples may not be able to actually marry until 2017.

The longest unresolved case on the district level still remains without an opinion at the Franklin Circuit in Kentucky's state court system. The state was sued in Franklin County in September 2013. Judge Thomas Wingate subsequently heard arguments on August 18, but he has yet to rule - the longest ever for a judge on his level since holding a court date. Most judges tend to rule on this issue very quickly, usually less than a month, and many have ruled within two weeks after court.
One reason for the delay may be that Judge Wingate stood for reelection on Nov. 4. Understandable because there is little doubt he will rule for the plaintiffs. Judge Wingate has a liberal reputation in separating church and state in Kentucky [link]. The Club for Growth has also criticized him in the past [link].
Meanwhile, the state has responded to the petitioners in Kentucky's federal lawsuits now at the US Supreme Court [link]. It may be that Judge Wingate is holding off because of those pending appeals.
While Michigan's federal case has a good chance at being judged by the US Supreme Court by June, Kentucky's are getting awfully close to the high court's unofficial January deadline, so it would be nice to get a move on in state court...
-Missouri plaintiffs have requested the 8th Circuit to either lift the stay or expedite the hearing

-district court judge declines to lift the stay in Texas case. Not at all surprising considering the 5th Circuit issued a stay of the Mississippi

Same with Arkansas, would like the State Supreme Court to weigh in now.
Ohio's response is in. Like Michigan and Kentucky, they support the Supreme Court granting cert:

Tennessee's is due on Monday I believe...
Florida appeals stay denial to Supreme Court:

This'll be interesting indeed to see how they handle this since it's the first request for a stay post-October 6 of a case which hasn't been decided by an appeals court. I guess I wouldn't be surprised if it went either way to be quite honest.
However, I'd be quite surprised if the appeal DIDN'T go either way...lol.I guess I wouldn't be surprised if it went either way to be quite honest.
I'm surprised there hasn't been a freeze put on Georgia's case - also under the 11th Circuit. There are four other cases that are not under appeal, one each in Kentucky, the Dakotas, and Nebraska. I'm not expecting a judgment in Kentucky's state case; it would have come already. We might get one soon in South Dakota. Who knows about North Dakota; motions for summary judgment are in. Nebraska's case is in for hearing on Jan. 29.
I'm hoping SCOTUS simply grants cert on the 9th.
I have no desire to see what the 5th or 8th circuits will say about marriage equality.
