What is new on the Gay Marriage front?

Tuesday will be a big day.

In the morning is the oral arguments hearing in Norfolk, Virginia, and Scotland will have a final vote, and there will be a protest at the Ugandan embassy @ 2 pm.

What does it say that I'm more interested in hearing oral arguments in this case than watching the Super Bowl?

We're in the midst of a civil liberties frenzy. It is something that you do only once in a lifetime, and hopefully ever in American history.

I'm not really into it either. I'll grab a six pack and a bag of Cheetos and head over to my brother's.

Is that supposed to persuade a judge? Really? Wow... and at the 9th Circuit at that. I wouldn't be surprised if the judges deciding Sevcik just shut the dossier and decided not to listen to this drivel any longer.

Of course it is utter bollocks, but I must award points for effort. Twisting the racist marriage laws around like that takes a certain creativity.

And it is not designed to persuade a judge. It is designed to give cover to a judge whose mind is already made up, and who would like nothing more than to vent his homophobia, but, who, in the face of the overwhelming onslaught of good arguments from equality proponents, still requires the pretext of some novel argument to explore and endorse.

Because that's what we're fighting for; eKKKual marriage. EYES will SPRAIN from rolling.

Well, this Super Bowl isn't a common one, either -- two teams I've actually followed from time to time are facing off!

I'll probably kick back with a novel and watch over the tops of the pages, letting my ears alert me to excited tones from the commentator, which will tell me when to shift primary attention.

It appears the Utah AG as well as several others joined in submitting defense for Nevada's ban.
Nothing we haven't heard before though.

Politician who blamed floods on gay marriage expelled from UKIP

‘The scriptures make it abundantly clear that a Christian nation that abandons its faith and acts contrary to the Gospel (and in naked breach of a coronation oath) will be beset by natural disasters such as storms, disease, pestilence and war.’

Wow too extreme for the UKIP...

Don't let the door hit ya on the way out ..|

I know I post a lot of opinion articles, but this one I dug up from last July is one of the best I have ever seen. It is by one of the judges of the US Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit.

How Gay Marriage Became Legitimate

Judge Richard A. Posner said:
...it is hard to make a case for discriminating against them, apart from a religious case based largely on Roman Catholic doctrine (invoked in Justice Alito’s dissent in Windsor, quoting the official Roman Catholic line on homosexual marriage from the recent book What Is Marriage?, co-authored by Robert P. George)

...

Vermont was the first... to form “civil unions” with all the rights of married couples except the right to call their relationship “marriage.” The denial of that right was equivalent to a state telling blacks that they could cohabit with whites and enjoy all the same rights as racially unmixed couples except the right to call their relationship “marriage.”

This country isn't a theocracy, when will those morons realize that?

Soon :)

One or more red states and they'll come out en masse and admit openly that they have lost. We are already seeing tacit acknowledgement in the 10th Circuit while Kansas is rushing to pass a special discrimination bill, and the 9th Circuit with Idaho doing the same.

No. They will never admit they were wrong.

Republicans will claim to have been ardent supporters of gay rights since Stonewall. It's just so unfortunate that some people misinterpreted their obvious support for gay marriage and gay rights as vehement opposition and bigotry.

Maybe. It depends how much the religious right still wants to press this issue in the future. I really don't know. They did eventually abandon anti-Semitism.

Some of them might even actually realize that the fight was never something God wanted, since it made Him look mean and heartless.

Some of the religious right will never let it go.
As it is, we are seeing gay jim crow laws being proposed in Kansas, Idaho, South Dakota and elsewhere.
