It's actually April 23. The case will likely be handed down prior to the referendum vote in November. Given that the Governor and AG are Democrats it's likely to end with the district court ruling since they are unlikely to defend the ban/appeal the decision.

Though in the unlikely event that the 9th Circuit agrees with the decision in Sevcik, it would be reversed.
 
My 1st cousin's son, my 2nd cousin posted this pic on Facebook, he was 21 yesterday. It came from Punk Rock Libertarians who posted this in 2012. I wanted to let everyone see that the kids of this generation is on our side. I wanted to post some comments about it but I'm getting Opinterph's ok that I can do it. There were 3,793 comments at the time I copied the pic but comments were getting higher. I didn't figure the percentage of good comments but I would bet you that .01 percent of those 3,793 comments were anti gay marriage. Pretty good if you ask me.

Well, what about the 4th and 5th cousins that we consider relatives. I know most people probably quit counting at 2 or 3. Our family reunions are about 300 now. Probably more. I haven't been to one in a while.

Degree of cousins is counted by cousin with the closest relation to a common ancestor, followed by the count of generational gap.

The Marriage Equality Movement Is Getting Ready To Go Back To The Supreme Court

“We have to operate on two timelines: one being where we’re in front of the Supreme Court sooner” — likely, [Wolfson] said, in the next court term that begins in October and would be expected to end in June 2015 — “and the other where we’re in front of the Supreme Court a little later” — which he would place in the 2017 to 2019 range.

I think the US District Court is in Eugene, which would be a heck of a trip for me, like over a hundred bucks in gas one-way. I think it will be a Wednesday, which means possible doctor appointment (like one in three chance). It would be fun, but it will come down to finances, time constraints with my conservation work, and my mom's health.

Keep reminding me.

The Eugene Division, yeah that's the one captioned in the court documents.

There will be plenty of notices in the media come April.
 
VA's ban is so extreme not even private contracts are allowed.
And one of the men behind the ban,Bob Marshall made it clear that this ban was done to show his dislike of the LGBT community and their sinful ways so the animus behind it is clear.

Thanks for pointing that out. As I said earlier, the religious right is drowning in its own extremism, and they are so hysterical that they don't even realize it.

It's also worth repeating here that the two judges handling each Virginia case are Obama appointees, and the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals is heavily populated by Democratic appointees.

It's just off Coburg Road near the river.

Something I learned when on a whim I decided to bike from Corvallis to Eugene and took Coburg Road out of Harrisburg and just decided to stay on it.

That's almost certainly not the best way to drive there.....


I wish my mom hadn't sold her car -- it got three times the mileage my truck does. If I had it available, I wouldn't bat an eye at making the trip.
 


Needless to say the question has little hope of passing. The latest poll in Arkansas [pdf], which is chock full of white Evangelicals, has support for marriage equality at 36% opposed to 55%. However that is a 20 point improvement over the vote for 2004 Amendment 3, which 75% of voters passed. Recent ballot results also show that undecided voters are shifting in favor of gay rights.
 
I still think it will come down to the courts.
And while it would be nice to see these repealed via voters,I'm loathed to put our rights up for a vote.
 
Considering the motion for summary judgment and the attorney general's reversal, the judge in one of Virginia's cases ordered a quick briefing yesterday on why Bostic v. Rainey should continue proceedings:

Responses to yesterday's order were due today at 3 PM. That is the fastest due date on a report I've ever seen. One can get the impression that Judge Wright Allen is itching to dispose of this case and grant summary judgment for the plaintiffs.

It seems a ruling in our favor will come down very soon, maybe even next week. As it is there is so much going on in Virginia it seems the state should have its own thread by now.
