Yeah, Sotomayor has put a stay on justice in Kansas.

Kansas had requested an emergency stay from SCOTUS because on Friday, the 10th Circuit denied the same request. Sotomayor will probably refer the stay request to the full court, if recent experience is any judge.

It will be interesting to see what they do with it.

There really is no reason. The 6th Circuit has about as much influence in Kansas, South Carolina, and Montana as water on rocks. That is, unless I misunderstood your question.

No, you didn't misunderstand. I had thought perhaps that Kansas, etc. might be "on hold" until the 6th is sorted out. Kind of like a game of musical chairs with the needle lifted.

There is no point in SCOTUS delaying now that there is a split.

Given that Scalia is on the bench, there's probably no reason for a lot of things the Court does.

The procedures aren't stupid, just arcane. It's one of those things I can understand while reading the explanation, but the moment I look up from the print I don't get it any more.

There appear to be no lawsuits against in state bans as of yet.
