What is new on the Gay Marriage front?

Has 43rd president George W. Bush, and/or his campaign strategist Karl Rove … [offered an opinion regarding] the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Obergefell v. Hodges?

I searched and found nothing from either President Bush or Mr. Rove.

I'm not sure where to put this because of all the things going on. So I'll put it here and let opinterph decide. It's a beautiful jesture.

Ben & Jerry’s celebrates marriage equality with ‘I Dough, I Dough’ flavor
06/27/15 11:46 AM—Updated 06/27/15 12:43 PM

By Abby Borovitz

The ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s, a longtime supporter of same-sex marriage, joined the nationwide celebration of the Supreme Court ruling which made marriage equality the law of the land on Friday with a sweet sentiment of their own.

This may belong elsewhere as well, but it shows the changing attitudes. The video doesn't include the ranting that prompted this response....

lyrics:

He is jealous for me
Love's like a hurricane, I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy
He is jealous for me
Love's like a hurricane, I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy
When all of a sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory
and I realize just how beautiful You are and how great your affections are for me.
Oh, how He loves us so
Oh, how He loves us
How He loves us so.

Yeah, He loves us
Woah, how He loves us
Woah, how He loves us
Woah, how He loves.

So we are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes
If grace is an ocean we're all sinking
So heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss and my heart turns violently inside of my chest
I don't have time to maintain these regrets when I think about the way

That he loves us,
Woah, how He loves us
Woah, how He loves us
Woah, how He loves

He loves us,
Woah, how He loves us
Woah, how He loves us
Woah, how He loves

[Whispered]: Well, I thought about You the day Stephen died and You met me between my breaking
I know that I still love You, God, despite the agony
...they want to tell me You're cruel
But if Stephen could sing, he'd say it's not true, cause...[voice breaks]...

Cause He loves us,
Woah, how He loves us
Woah, how He loves us
Woah, how He loves

Yeah, He loves us
Woah, how He loves us
Woah, how He loves us
Woah, how He loves

Alabama has told its clerks NOT to issue licenses. Judge Moore is gonna get kicked off the bench again should he try to take on Roberts and company. Personally, they should ban him forever but he keeps getting re-elected.

Alabama . . .

The only people I've ever known from there had left and wanted never to go back.

Many have begun to issue licenses anyway.

Many probate judges have taken to issuing marriage licenses to gay couples regardless of the state court's order. While some judges are still attempting to weed through the court's complicated order and delaying licenses as a result, others have read the order and are choosing to ignore it.

In Limestone County, probate Judge Charles Woodroof said he was aware of the court's order. "We are issuing licenses [to] anyone who qualifies," he told The News Courier.

Hubby and I saw the victory while we were on vacation.
Amazing that we now married in all 50 states, truly amazing.

Sorry I've been absent but I've been celebrating our victory at Twin Cities Pride!!! It's been an incredible journey for us all. Ever since the Prop 8 fight in California, I have been passionate about this issue. It in turn has led me to new professional aspirations and goals. I am interviewing for a job with the Minnesota DFL (our Democratic Party) tomorrow and hopefully I get it!

I've been going over the dissents.

They're disgusting, homophobic, hyperbolic, and stupid. They also have a vehemence that you don't often see with SCOTUS.

Scalia calls the decision "a threat to democracy". He attacks Kennedy almost personally as "pretentious" and "egotistic."

Alito wonders what will happen to all those poor, oppressed Christians who will now be forced to watch gay people around them getting married. How dare gays threaten Christians with love!!!

Thomas had some kind of stroke. He actually compared gays to slaves, claiming that slaves did not suffer indignity from their enforced servitude, and that government intervention to free the slaves was not enobling for them. Therefore, we cannot enoble gays by allowing them to marry!

Roberts was subtle in his language, but startlingly homophobic in his illogic. He was historically inaccurate and his conclusions bizarre. He implied marriage was consistent across many culutres and several millenia of time, neither of which is even close to accurate. He claims no similarity between this 2015 gay marriage case and the court's 1967 anti-miscegenation case because Loving v. Virginia didn't challenge the concept of "one man one woman," therefore it didn't alter the definition of marriage. He claims gay marriage mounts “assaults on the character of fairminded people” who oppose same-sex marriage by making such people feel like the cruel bigots they actually are (and, obviously, their feelings are more important than gay rights!). He claims gays are hurt by the Supreme Court deciding in our favor, since it takes away the discussion at the local level (where it would be so much better for us to triumph).

Scalia, Alito, and Thomas' dissents read like something a high school student might write for a term paper in an evangelical school. Roberts' dissent reads like something the Onion might write as satire.

These four guys have just established themselves as prime exemplars of bigotry over reason and politics over justice for the next few hundred years. And, amazingly, they don't seem to have a clue about that!

Scalia and Thomas are straight-up grade A fuckheads, if you ask me... I take solice in the fact that history will judge them as harshly as they have judged others...

John Roberts is the biggest asshole out of the four dissenters IMO.
Let us not forget that his lesbian cousin was in the audience for the DOMA hearings and got to hear a family member basically state that she and her wife deserved to be treated as second class citizens by the federal government.
That blow was bad enough but for him to rule the same way with the states two years later...he is a POS, simple as that.

It's been a whole week since the Equality of Marriage ruling. The true believers continue to "circle the wagons." Their fear and loathing are without bounds. :D

*squeals with delight*

That's how conservatives are.
