  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What is the meaning and origin of your username?

Mine's from the Cole Porter song "Well, Did You Evah"... the song's most famous appearance was in the film High Society, where it was sung by Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra; but the one I love was a version recorded by Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop for Red Hot + Blue, a compilation tribute to Cole Porter in benefit to AIDS research that was put out in 1990... it has lots of classic songs reinterpreted by major artists of the day, some in classic style but some in really interesting revisions. It's one of my favorite albums.

Anyway, the song "Well, Did You Evah" is a sort of parody song about party gossip, making fun of the idle rich who have nothing much to say but keep on talking anyway; but Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop make it amazing with their offbeat personalities informing every phrase, making it a parody of a parody, perfectly applicable to the 90s as well as the 50s (and to the 30s, when Porter originally wrote it).

My Dad's first email when we got internet long ago was Musikman, cuz he plays guitar. I learned to play guitar from him teaching me, so used to use Musikmanjr all the time. 2400 is just a number that sounds really fun in my head, so I decided to combine them a year ao when I needed a new email, and since then its stuck.

Saint Domingue as in Haiti?

yes... the pirates of saint domingue went there to steal people.... kinda creepy to know that about your family heritage, right?

slavers

well its a consolation that they landed in Boston eventually and settled down to plain old revolutionary war....lol

FIRST frank: Just being myself, being open and sincere, being FRANK with y'all

SECOND FRANK: That's my name

much more logical than my previous prairielooner username from a couple years back...

In high school my family was perceived as being very wealthy, which while not entirely true, is not exactly a ridiculous assumption. I guess some friends of mine thought a more appropriate name than my real one for someone they thought was rich was Nigel Esquire. Somehow that spread well beyond just my friends, to my family and even people i didn't really even know and eventually everyone was calling me Esquire. It just stuck. The rest is just a random series of numbers that I like for some reason.

^ hey, you gotta come from somewhere.

i just dont know where they came from before that... we cant trace it any further back than that. the original port of the ship... the peoples nationality that were on the ship.... We just assume we are english or irish, perhaps even french... but we know where they did business and what the business was.

I wish it wasn't part of my heritage. I think it brings alot of shame on my family. But I wasn;t alive then so I didnt have a say... lol

For years it's been my fantasy to be honored at the Player's Ball as the first gay pimp of the year with a fine stable of boys on the chain out there getting my money every day and bringing it back to me!

I'm pretty sure that none of us should experience shame or joy from the things that dead people did, except insofar as they are human failings or triumphs. You can't inherit wrongdoing. That is true of the moral sphere, but also of the material sphere. Most fortunes don't last that long.

Mine comes partly from my fascination of the Dark ages and also there was a TV show on from my childhood that was set in med evil or dark ages time where these people had weapons that would turn them into super heroes or something like that i barely remember it as is
