What is wrong with Pakistan ?

The pictures and videos of insane religious protests doesn't lie.
Is it the medias fault? I don't think so. They should modify their behaviors if they don't won't other people to criticize them. I guess they are not embarrassed of their group mop behavior.

smh. the media is a part of the branch of the government where the government uses the media to push it's agenda.

what gets me is how there's been this huge islam outrage since 9/11. before that, nobody gave a fuck. you have governments that are allies of the united states such as your country running into these places trying to push the propaganda that islam is associated with terrorism and they need to go into these countries to spread "democracy". they did it with iraq and afganistan. it just makes me smh @ how back 11 years ago, george w bush, america's president used the whole 9/11 incident to turn it into a holy war where he actually using christianity as a tool to go to war with another country that happened to be predominantly muslim. :##: i still remember the idiot putting a cross @ the wtc site and even having "god bless america" as the new national anthem. what did that do? there were hate crimes against muslims where you had people getting murdered because they looked a certain way and police harassing people outside mosque and the whole nine. #-o apparently, the people that were doing it couldn't see that they themselves were using their christianity as a weapon to harm others that were different than them.

i can say the same thing about how christianity was used how many centuries ago to justify slavery, i can also mention how christianity was and still is used to keep you and me from having rights such as the right to get married because we're gay. does that keep people from practicing christianity? of course not. the same thing with islam. islam is the same thing as christianity as it is with buddism and judaism. some people use them it for good. other people use it for bad. doesn't make it exactly good or bad. just because you see the media trying so hard to say islam is evil doesn't mean that it is. only thing you're doing is exposing your ignorance especially when you generalize everyone where you're saying "they", "they should modify their behaviors" and etc. so you think all people that practice islam are fucked up huh?

this whole thread is just ignorant though.

Before that, i thought their behavior was already extreme and shameful.

So what are you saying, do you like this sort of religious protest behavior ?
The picture shows an aggressive religious mop group behavior. If one on one, they might be cowards.

The import of the Shakespeare quote was to remind Brutus, the only conspirator duped into participating in the assassination, that his fate was not due to the stars, but due to his own inaction. The application of the quote was to foolishly remind Telstra one more time that he doesn't have to continue buying into one-dimensional stories of foreign cultures: he could actually READ a variety of academic materials and meet real flesh and blood Pakistanis to form his impression.

But, he doesn't seem interested. It's easier to take a picture of a thousand people, or even 10,000, and blithely condemn and entire nation with disdain that completely ignores the totality of their existence.

It is a shame that religious bigotry isn't necessarily the worst form of self-righteousness on the planet. It has to compete with secular bigotry like those of the ignorant and intellectually lazy. Thank goodness that sort of mind rarely gets to lead groups.

Absolutely not. Pictures never lie. (Give me strength!)

We see one slice of Pakistani life, no matter how common or rare, and you form your entire impression of a people. The media could never force that -- you have to choose to be so limited all on your own.

It is noteworthy that you sit in anonymity on a gay forum, opining away about the morality or ignorance of an entire nation, yet your simplest day-to-day activities are shielded from public view here. We listen to your repeated condemnation of vast populations of our planet, yet you share almost nothing personal that would have much more bearing on your own merit or morality.

Do you work? Do you kick animals? Do you trash the eco-system? Are you happily dating married men? Do you volunteer to help humanity in local charities? If we put a reporter with a camera on your worst moments, what will he see? Will we then have the right to make instant assessment of your merit based on those photos, as you so often do on J U B?

You talk often of the errant abuses of religion, but you are dead silent when it comes to posting what do you replace religion with that is positive. In what ways to YOU help the poor, teach children, heal the sick, or encourage others? Those are major functions of many religions, not just condemning homosexuals and Down's Syndrome patients as you contend.

If your job is simply to carp from the sidelines, what of it? Adding one more negative voice to the air is no accomplishment. It is not goodness to (merely) be better than the worst. (Sanskrit proverb) What do you actually DO to help the world?

So, put up or shut up.

You answer your own questions and i'll listen.

Asking what will replace religion is like asking what will replace cancer if we ever cure it. Schools, hospitals, charities, homeless shelters and food banks can all exist with and without religion. Just because some of these institutions are religiously affiliated does not mean they require religion to operate. We can still behave as moral beings without religion while we the ditch dogmatic baggage that divides us.

Pakistan is a very fucked up place. It is poor, backwards minded and utterly religious.

On the other hand I know a lot of Pakistanis which work in the camps and facilities in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kurdistan and so on. Friendly, kind, doing shitty jobs for little money because even those shitty jobs are better than anything they could do in Pakistan.

People like to know whats right and wrong, and the fanatical islamists tell them that they are right and the others are wrong. They are taught and they live a pretty strict and hardlined form of islam originating in Saudi Arabia which tells them that they will be rewarded in the afterlife while all those decadent nonbelievers will burn in eternal hell. Sounds like a good idea to hang on while your daily life is pretty much hell.

Is it the peoples fault? I don´t think so. Classical case of "they don´t know better". Most of us wouldn´t know better if we were raised in an ultra christian society and the only school would teach us to remember (not read) verses of the bible about how right we are and how wrong and bad everyone else is.

Other case is if you live in a western society with all the possibilities of education and information that we have at hand, and than you choose to live in a pre-medieval mindset.

Is it the media's fault or Pakistan's fault that i have (...) negative views for this country?

Towards my opinion, there is only one good answer at this question.

You need to visit the country Pakistan and you need to travel around over there for a while. And during this visit, talk with people (as much as possible), look around, get an idea about the general atmosphere, etc. As far as I know, Australian citizens are able to get a tourist visa for Pakistan.

How about this proposal?

Feel free to react.

The Pakistanis I know personally are some of the kindest, most civilized and generous-minded people I've ever had the good fortune to meet. However, with a weak central government, and warring factions, the country itself seems to be in a bad way. If you do a search for reports published in "The Economist" you'll get some idea of the difficulties faced by the country.

so if it were a bunch of christians that were doing it, would you have a problem with that? isn't that what's going on with the whole gay rights issue for how long now. i'm more concerned about that than what's going on in pakistan. whatever is going on over there isn't affecting me. those christians, religious right is affecting my life more so than whatever is going on in pakistan.

You buy into enough lies that your post here has little but entertainment value.

you're a funny dude. your views contradict each other and you're looking @ me like i'm crazy.

lol @ you looking down on islam when i could say the same thing about how people in this country have used christianity as a weapon. i guess you think that's a lie too. :rotflmao:

I'll answer them.

I work as I can; primarily I'm on disability. I report people who kick animals to the police. I'm not dating at all at present. I spend ten to fifteen hours a week in charity work, primarily conservation. If you put a reporter with a camera on my worst moments, you'd see me cursing bureaucrats and government assholes who oppose getting things done.

To help the world, I volunteer for safety and conservation projects.

Now -- your turn.

Tons of things. Lack of government/police control, lack of education (or common sense or logic) among average people who are always overly religious, few educated people not speaking out about problems or even caring (this is an issue all over Asia).

These are the elite youth of Pakistan:

Are you an Ayn Rand devotee? You seem to consider selfishness to be a virtue.

But it won't happen: religious people are far more likely to contribute, and to contribute more, to such things.
