What is your dream house

This is my dream house. I love the gables.

I would love a home built into a small mound like a hobbit-hole. Door at top is level with the slope (rather like the flying saucer opening in THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL) and steps taking you down into the center of the dome.

The dome enclosure would have massive built-in speakers and a large tv screen built around the round sides, with everything looking like a control panel from a spacecraft. Skylights (of a green color to match the lawn of the mound), and side rooms lower down into the ground below the upper central dome room.

Doesn't need to be big; would prefer intimate. A nice creek should be nearby, and woods all around. I could plant the lawn above the dome like in the Teletubbies 8').

Well, I didn't have an answer, so I looked around on Yahoo! Real Estate and found this little gem up in the Presidio Heights district of San Francisco, a place I would love to live...

Think it might be a bit much? Click here to see the whole page of photographs. I'd like to see it with some furniture, to give the rooms a bit of scale... but one can't be too choosy.

I'm two-thirds tempted to sign up for a tour, but an asking-price of $22.8 million is a bit daunting. I'm afraid of the doormen at Tiffany, can you imagine me trying to convince a real-estate agent that I am legitimately in the market for a Beaux-Arts mansion modeled after the Petit Trianon?

I just spent the night in a teensie eensie weensie (can you tell it's small?) cottage on the tip of a peninsula that juts out into a huge lake. Probably built in the 20's or 30's--very Craftsman stylish.

Beadboard walls and ceiling. Fireplace. Porch (with bed!). Dock. Beach.

It was frickin' perfect!
