  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What kind of souvenirs do you buy while on vacation?

All I usually buy for myself is a shot glass from wherever I am.....preferably from Hard Rock if there's one nearby......other than that I usually don't shop too much on vacay

I used to buy little things for members of my family like shot gasses, mugs, fridge magnets, key chains or for my mother I used to get her spoon rests. Now that I moved away and won't be seeing them often I'm less apt to get them something because I would have to send it in the mail.

At one point I used to collect bells from different places and then shot glasses, but I don't anymore.

Something that reminds me of the time I had in the state.

In Kentucky it was a shot glass and my first pride t-shirt, in Florida it was a shot glass and a palm tree toothpick holder, and... we'll see what other worlds i'll conquer next and what i'll buy.

And yeah, I do a good bit of shopping on vacation. Peer pressure, that's called.

Coke cans.
Something small or very distinctive. At one point, I was considering taking 2kg of basmati rice back to home when I was in India.

shot glasses usually. It is something my brother and I started collecting back in college and we probably have over a 100 from various places we visited.

I just take lots and lots of pictures.

Used to buy souvenir buildings when I visited those places (CN Tower, Empire State Building, Gateway Arch) but don't buy them anymore.

I buy regular things that I'd regularly wear. I constantly relive the travels and the good times whenever I use these items. For example, I'm now wearing the Portland State hoodie I bought at the JUB meet in Oregon last August. And shoes I bought in Laval, Quebec, Canada in November 2009.

When I lived in the Northeast my Building Super's wife was nice and I would get her some small trinket and it always made her happy. Sometimes it really is just the thought that counts.

I am going thru and cleaning my shot glass collect. That is what made me think to ask this.

I am surprised so many of us collect shot glasses from our travels.

A lot of drunks post here,

j/k I never used mine for shots.

People collect them because they are pretty inexpensive and say the name of the place you went to.

Usually I'd buy the usual: magnets, thermometers, shirts. I collected rocks as well from a state, but I ceased to do that once I started visiting non-Southern states.

A shot glass for my brother.

Lately I and whoever is with me, have bought little to no souvenirs due to the check-in baggage fees and the fact that half of our vacations are now via car.

T-shirts, sweatshirts, fridge magnets and sometimes local art

If there's some kind of local craft or food, I grab one of those. Also, if there are church cookbooks for sale somewhere, I have to grab one.

Church, Ladies' Auxilliary, Chamber of Commerce cookbooks are the best way to get to know a place. For real. They're not fancy, they're not full of color pictures like food blogs, but they are FASCINATING to read.

I accidentally started my collection on my Vegas trip in 2008. I spent over $400 on shot glasses.

I wouldn't call them too inexpensive. !oops!
