I wear an $8 quartz analog watch I bought when WalMart first opened in my area six years ago. Iwear it all the time, except when showering or doing dishes and similar tasks. I have changed the batteries twice (I simply brought the watch to the counter girl at the WalMart jewelry counter, and she replaces them with a new inexpensive batteries).

Last week, I put a crack in the crystal and now will have to be extra careful not to get water on it, as it is likely the cracked glass will leak.

BbNinja, I just can't see spending $100 (much less $1-5000) to give me the same exact info I have on my phone.

Point taken.

I usually have my phone on me, but a watch is the one thing I have become naked without. I frequently at work am in a position where I can't get to my phone - gloves on, chemicals or mice in hand - and I need to note the time, so a watch is critical; as a result, even on weekends or at night I now feel lost without one one regardless of where my phone is.

Also, easier to look at a watch surreptitiously than yank out a phone... ;)

Thanks to this thread, I've just realised I haven't seen my watch for a few months. Best go look for it.. later.

See...this is what I LOVE about JUB! It's more than porn. It helps you organize your life. Good luck man! :)

Analogue.

I have a number of vintage automatic watches that I wear, as the occasion permits.

All of them were purchased for under $100.00.

A few years back I found a Hamilton Ventura, just like this one, at a garage sale for $20. It just needed a new band, new batteries and a good cleaning and it works fine. My jeweller nearly shit when I showed it to him and offered me a grand for it on the spot. I declined and put it in my drawer, never to see daylight again. I wear a Kalvin Klein chronograoh for every day use. I've since started collecting old watches. Thrift stores and house sales have been very good to me.

Why? What is the point of owning something, if you're not going to use it?

Cause I'm afraid I'll break it. I'm a klutz. Plus in my line of work (i'm an electrician) I can't wear it to work and I don't go out much socially anymore, so in the drawer it stays. :(

I was gifted with a Seiko back in 1996. I only wear it now when I play dress up. It cost $350 when it was bought.

It looked like the one below, but the black strip in the middle is gold on mine.

RADO. $ 2500.00 Love it. I also like OMEGA as well. They fit me better cuz I have a small wrist.

Too Bad, mikey.

Hopefully you'll wear it at least one in a while...

You know what? You are absolutely right. I'm an idiot. I will start wearing them when I go out. I needed to put them away for a while because I started getting obsessive about time. I started collecting swiss watches a few years ago in my late 30's because my Dad died when he was forty and I felt my time was running out. So, subconsciously, I'd find these great old mechanical watches and repair them myself, i guess to add to my time on this earth. But I think I'm over that now, so I will start wearing them.

This is one of my favourites I have.

I hate leaving the house without a watch....I always feel naked and a bit lost. Its much easier to check the time than constantly taking your phone out of your pocket, which can look rude if with company.

I did have a very nice Briel watch that my bf got me for my birthday a few years ago. I think it was about $250, but i'm not overly careful with stuff (and wore it everyday) and the leather strap finally wore out. I now have a nice black Diesel watch (about $150) that has a rubber strap so should last longer. Nothing to do with status symbol, its covered by my sleeve most of the time.

I always wear analogue watches, never found a digital one i've liked the look of. Also I HATE watches with metal link straps...those things rip the hair out of my wrists constantly and hurt like a bitch.

I prefer analog watches, though I'm not sure why. I think it's because I'm a visual person. I have two decent ones (Swiss Militaire, bought for what was then the equivalent of about $70, and a $60-ish Bulova). My cousin bought me a digital/analog watch a few years ago, but I lost the instruction manual, so I don't know how to reset it.

And I have lots of reasons for not using my phone to tell time. First, I rarely use my phone, so it's usually turned off and stowed in my bag. Also, the clock in my classroom tends to go on the fritz pretty regularly, and I don't allow cell phones in my classroom. If I want to keep track of time, I need a watch.

Samsung Galaxy  Who needs a watch when you have a phone.

I never go anywhere without a watch on and the tan line around my wrist is a clear indicator, haha. Like someone else said, I feel naked without one. I have four that I wear with different types of clothing - a Cartier tank watch, simple black Movado with leather strap, Fossil sports watch with rubber wristband and a stainless Kenneth Cole. I don't wear rings or any type of jewelry so a watch is by only accessory. My parents bought me the Cartier when I graduated from college because they felt a man needed a nice watch for nice occasions. It's a beautiful watch and the only one that's insured separately.
