  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What makes you "weird", different from the rest, "normal" people..?

As far as the stuff my parents considered weird, the first I recall them being a bit put off by was the Art of Noise. Not so weird these days, but 1983 was a different time. :)

I go through cycles where I listen to different things. I was sort of in a 70s/80s funk phase, which has now led me into post-disco and post-punk, and especially the weird sort of areas where the two intertwined. It was an odd time. Disco had died a sudden death, and it was like nobody knew what to play at the clubs anymore. So there was a lot of tentative steps this way and that way, and plenty of dead ends...most of which deserved to be dead ends. But I'm intrigued by the dead ends all the same.

Hhmmm like Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers, or Pet Shop Boys then, maybe?

To tell you the truth, I expected more of the spectrum of, maybe, industrial music

Szymanowski is Debussy's twin!

I actually consider Ravel to be Debussy's evil twin, so maybe now a triplet? :p

I'm pretty sure there are no truly "normal" people on Earth. I think the main difference between "normal" and "weird" ones, is that some people are willing to change/curb their instincts/taste/morality/etc. to be accepted by society, while others prefer to resist the flow and be themselves even if it's lead to a more difficult life. The choice has not to be conscious and not consistent in time, nor in fields.

I'm sorta shy & socially awkward, and in general just not good with social interaction...
probably related to that ^ I'm also completely unfriendable & unloveable .. I have some way of driving people away (maybe not instantly, but given time...) even if trying to be friendly.

I've never had a girlfriend. Or a boyfriend. Or dated anyone. Or even simple things like cuddled/kissed/etc.

I've lived a -very- dull/boring life, and as such have absolutely no interesting 'life stories' to tell like other people do.

Oh and I have weird hobbies/interests.

^that would be something interesting for people like me. To be the one breaking the shell :)

I wonder whether this elevator music is elevator-music enough for Lex, or it must be more lounge-y:

^^ Oh, of course: ultimately, nobody is weird.

Because ultimately we are all individuals, each with some unique [read weird] characteristic, such as I don't know liking 1980s new wave music

I love it when people say something ... like ... gardening shows no skill because that's something that nature does by itself.

Send them to me -- a day helping do conservation work will show them just how far from what "nature does by itself" is from gardening.

PTSD, Bipolar I...

but more obviously, that I pick up trash that other people dropped in the street.

We do that when walking the path along the river. We make the kid pick up at least 2 things to carry out of the park when we leave.

^^ So you two were not talking metaphorically about picking up guys...

^ Something has changed in you, dear Belamo. You're more...amiable..? What has changed during your break from JUB ? Beware, you're mellowing :)

^^ Maybe it's only that you have finally developed a tolerance to my... what?.: vitriol?

I also do it most of the time when I'm doing conservation work, but it gets rather tiresome when at least once a month the stuff people leave behind fills a 30-gallon trash bag.

Two weeks ago I picked up three of those bags' worth. It was a good thing I had my bicycle trailer -- I went out with tubs full of mulch for the recently planted small trees, and came back with tubs full of trash.
