What motivates the hate ?

Anyone who posts something like, "Gays are going to hell," is just being an attention seeking asshole. Nothing more. I'm sorry that some foolish moron choose to make such a comment.

Is there anything that I can do? I'm not aware of how YouTube really works but can I report him/her or something?

It wouldn't surprise me if Phelps has people scouring YouTube looking for such videos just so they can get their message across. More likely, though, it's as Alpha says and it's just attention-seekers who get their jollies by sounding superior. I'm sure it lets them sleep better at night. After all, it must be rather exhausting making peoples' lives miserable day after day after day.

I've had a bit of a brainwave on this topic (insert flashing lightbulb icon) .... I think the internet depersonalises the situation so that it allows these people to post such comments because they don't actually have to face someone and say 'go to hell'.

Well, that sort of stuff goes on in forums as well, doesn't it? Even here at JUB. After all, we're little more than words on a screen. Most of us here will never meet a fellow member.

Anonymity is like alcohol. Inhibitions tend to disappear.

i believe the hate comes from the fact that they fear what they don't understand.

they've lived their lives with the 'norms' society and the church have hard-wired into them. many of them do not know a out gay person in real life so all they know is what's been told to them, and everyone here knows we don't get good pr.

To cut a long story short ... I have a video on youtube ... which has attracted some really good and nice comments .... and then there are those predictable smart-arse ones .... the latest being .... 'Gays go to hell'.

This sort of thing doesn't really worry me because I reckon it says more about the personalities of the people making the comments than me. But what has always intrigued me is what motivates these people to actually go out of their way to find these videos and to type in a message saying 'Gays go to hell'. Does this guy really actually want me to go to hell ... or is it just some sort of way of weilding some superiority Or is it just because he is insecure in himself ?? Or what ???

God ... thats all a bit morbid and depressing for a Monday afternoon (NZ time) isn't it ?

Obviously the asshole does not know diddle about the man he is saying it too. Just reading it makes me want to beat him into a pulp, but then maybe that brings me down to his level.

I do not know what you have over there JAG, but you have folks here who love you and would never say such shit to you. Keep your chin up.

The hate is motivated by ignorance, most of which is self-perpetuated. Why go through the effort of understanding, when it's easier to hate what you can't quite get?

As far as I can see and espically on youtube if you are more flamingly obvious and out their in your videos (etc chris crocker) your going to be targeted for abuse, sucks but is true then again you just get fuck wits that want to mess with you its a mixed bag, just report them and move on its just the internet

I think they're all from 15 year old kids....or even younger. There's a lot of that stuff on YouTube, even in places you'd never expect it.....like a music video from a singer, etc. You're not really dealing with adults in most instances.

And of course, you're right on. They can say whatever they want and hide behind anoymity.

So I say delete them. They're just trash comments that are taking away from your video.

Well, what about god creating rapists & murderers? Didn't he create them? Aren't they going to hell? Don't they deserve to?

Ok ... lets assume god created rapists and murderers and for that matter paedophiles. As well as homosexuals. One of these things is not like the other (borrowing something I learnt off Sesame Street). Rapists, muderers and paedophiles all have one thing in common. They involve inflicting some sort of harm onto another human. I am pretty sure there is something in gods law which says something to the affect that 'Thou shalt not do this'.
On the other hand, by creating a homosexual, that has no other adverse influence on any third party, he is giving it his seal of approval.

JAG, This kind of clear and conclusive reasoning is one of many reasons why I hold you in such high regard. Very well done. I could not say it better.
