I am posting this because of what I see on a daily basis from my work. I am an RN. I work in a large hospital and rotate from the ER to surg/med.
Yesterday I watched a very handsome 29 year old male die in the ER ( we think ) from a very dangerous drug mix of prescription drugs and over the counter drugs.
An autopsy will tell more.
A brief history on him...He was a diabetic and had taken his insulin. He also was suffering with depression and had taken his meds for that. He had also taken an adavan.
He was playing tennis when he collapsed. While he was able to talk with us he told us he had drank two bottles of the five hour energy drinks plus a 24oz. can of some type mega energy booster drink, we really never understood what he was calling it. Remember he was a diabetic....All those were packed full of sugar and caffeine for energy. His blood sugar was over 300 when brought in. His heart rate was off the charts. He went into cardiac arrest and passed....what a shame!
We were also told by his wife that he had smoked some pot earlier in the morning.
We live in a drug induced world now, whether prescription drugs or illegal or over the counter.
We really need to be careful on mixing and matching any drugs.
It really boggles my mind sometimes when I am getting drug info from new admitt's or in the ER as to how many drugs people are taking. And it's all ages from kids to the elderly.
Please be careful folks..... It's not all the doctors fault either....you wouldn't believe how many people will demand drugs from their doctors and will accuse them of not doing their jobs if they don't.
Then you have all those who hop from one doctor to another and never tell the doctors what kind of meds he or she is on from another doctor.
I guess it's work related stress as for posting this....but dang ...29 is just too young to die due to these kind of things.
