There seems to be this preconception that gay people almost always listen to pop, dance or club music - Madonna and stuff. I was just wondering if that's actually true, because I like classic rock and metal; The Beatles, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Muse, Metallica...

So... do gay guys normally listen to pop and dance, or is there just as much of a variety as there is with straight guys (my totally straight room mate listens to pop and dance music ALLL the time lol)?

Dance is cool at the clubs, but you got the right idea!

My first musical love was Led Zeppelin. Still impressed by Robert Plant, I strongly suggest his album, Might Rearranger!

All that you mentioned are on my list. Along with U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay, Cake, Pete Yorn, and too many to name here!

But don't cubby-hole yourself. I found out too late how cool Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Buddy Holly were! Check out jazz, classical, and all that you can!

You'll know what you like when you hear it, just learn to give it a chance.

I listen to a fair amount of jazz too - no particular artists, but I have a loads of compilation CDs that are very cool. Don't listen to a whole lot of classical, but I play the piano and the clarinet, so I've got a decent grounding in that too.

i listen to anything and everything, literally. from classical to jazz, classic rock/pop to rap and r&b. i even enjoy the occasional musical/show tune.

I listen to almost everything. Im not the kind of guy that goes omg teh suxorz when it comes to mainstream or whatever kind of music. If it sounds good to me, its welcome. With that said, I guess Im more into pop, pop rock and r&b. But I also like rock, rock in spanish, dance, latin pop, bachata, reggae... everythin that sounds nice. I dont really like stuff that are too heavy or crazy sounding or too alternative or whatever.

Haha, my gay friend asked me if I was really into guys, because he found out that I don't listen to Britney Spears, or any pop chick for that matter.

I like my music alternative - - and my favorite bands are July for Kings, Pay the Girl, and Dishwalla.

I listen to EVERYTHING! Here's just a few random titles from my cd collection: "2Pac, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas, Christina Aguilera, Common, Disturbed, Dixie Chicks, Eminem, Fefe Dobson, Fiona Apple, Franz Ferdinand, Green Day, Gwen Stefani, Janet Jackson, Josh Groban, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, Linkin Park, Ludacris, Maroon 5, Matisyahu, Missy Elliott, Natasha Bedingfield, N.E.R.D., Outkast, Pussycat Dolls, Relient K, The Roots, Sade, Sean Paul, Shakira, Sublime, TLC, Yellowcard.....and that's just a sample. If it sounds good, then I'll love it!

My pretty mixed on what I listen to. I enjoy listening to metal and rock the most:
Judas Priest, Slayer, Dio, Pantera, Kreator, etc

On the flip side I listen to some dance and pop stuff:
Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Amber,etc

And since I'm Puerto Rican I listen to a good portion of reggaeton, Daddy Yankee and Don Chezina being some favs of mine.

I also listen to some old-school rap (not today's "Crunk" bullshit), I refuse to listen to R&B and "punk rock" and country is the worst ever, though I do like the Dixie Chicks in some capacity ever since they bashed Bush. :D

I like everything as long as it's not a former idol show participant, boy bands, former boy band members, people who think they can sing/dance/whatever just because their parents are famous or they have been gaining popularity through a tv show (eg. Pairs Hilton), and the sex sells type of chicks who think they can sell millions of records by showing their crotch and boobs in every single damn video they release and any other given occasion.

My favourite artists/bands right now are All That Remains, Aerosmith, Rob Zombie, Soul Embraced, Alanis Morissette, Bon Jovi, Guns n' Roses, Crashtones, Disturbed, Depeche Mode, Tori Amos, Metallica, U2, Evanescence, In Flames, Leave's Eyes, Nightwish, Imogen Heap, Systematic, Mudvayne, Faith No More, Sevendust, Lamb, Massive Attack, Velvet Revolver....

I love all kinds of music. I mainly play alternative kinda stuff like Placebo, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, PJ Harvey, The Cure, Morrissey, Tori Amos..... I do like some pop though such as Dannii Minogue, Jody Watley & Sophie Ellis Bextor and I'll always have a soft spot for Cyndi Lauper. As a kid I worshipped Samantha Fox, lol.

Loads - jazz, swing, 60's psychadelia, 60's bubblegum, rock, soul, classical, disco, folk, country, pop, rock & roll, motown, 50's doo-wop, electronic, funk, opera. Anything with a good tune.

everything - from rock, pop to metal, gothic, dance, club and alternative

i listen to a lot of phish and the grateful dead.

i also love jazz, blues, funk, bluegrass, hip hop, rock

i like anything good. im not too into a lot of today's pop though

I still tell straight ppl I listen to mostly rock bands LOL (which is so 2003 for me)... But I would really describe my music taste as half straight half gay, not sure if it's the right thing to say. On one hand I listen to Our Lady Peace, U2, Incubus, The Killers and a bunch other bands; on the other hand I listen to pop and dance a lot, even a bit of R&B, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Kylie Minogue, Madonna... just to give u an idea how much I LOVE female solo singers lol... So I guess I'm pretty versatile when it comes to music.

I really like drum and bass and goa trance (i dj both) but also partial to some techno and hardcore. I like a lot of other music as well, big fan of jazz, classical, 60's psychedelia, hip hop, big trip hop fan, loads of stuff. Not at all into pop, cheesey dance or r+b though.

Mostly Girl Pop, can't really relate to the boy songs, "Girl i love you, gorl I want you, Oh, girl be my wife." Errrr, NO! Hate Rap and Country.

Some of my favs...

Kelly Clarkson... personally for me the most talented, hardest working woman on the planet.
Pink
Christina Aguilera
Mariah Carey
JoJo
Stacie Orrico
Beyonce

As long as they have talent and write and has a connection with their music.
