The people is not at fault. The leaders are.
The people actually know NOTHING about the outside world. They really know nothing at all.

The issue is, how do you deal with the leaders ???

North Korea is preparing for war Unclean. It has never accepted the end of the end of the Korean War and it's showing the world that it will take us to the brink of annihiliation to prove it's point.

This has been coming for years. I'm just surprised it's taken them this long to do it.
Because the war has never ended: there was a truce and truces are usually declared when one of the sides is close to defeat, but that was not the case in Korea. Korea has been at war for close to sixty years.

North Korea isn't a threat - they can't deliver anything at any great distance with any accuracy. Iran is a far greater threat and even they are just focused on Israel. Big frikkin deal.
NK is a threat because they have power, even if it is seemingly less important and intimidating than that of the USSR but, most important and dangerous, they are "random".
You don't need to believe me, but NK may bring more grief than Iran to the USA: in fact, it was already like that in the past. Iran may have inflicted a deep wound to the American pride and cause them to elect one of the most "random" presidents ever (a stupid actor pretending to be the cowboy Mr. President of the World), but there's a memorial in Washington honoring the American fighters in Korea.

I should have added this in the previous post: NK is the national version of a "random-striking" terrorist group. In fact it is easier for a maverick country to bring danger with a minimum of power and influence (its weapons and the mere geographical location are more than enough) than for a heavyweight like Iran, precisely because of that bigger power and widespread influence.

north korea is mostly posturing. their actions have no logic to them whatsoever, and appear to be the desperate last acts from an insane leader. the problem is there's no clear legacy or indication of who will be taking over for KJI upon his death or inability to rule.

having said that though, they're even irritating china who has always been their most powerful and loyal ally. if north korea proves itself to china to be a threat on the peninsula, china will incapacitate them with little to no effort. it's the military equivalent of brushing a mosquito off your arm.

Oh right, and the Japanese, South Korean or American would be just happy with that.

Iran is a bigger threat as it is closer. Interestingly, major part of Muslim world is also angry with Iran.
Closer to what, whom, where?  http://www.mapsofindia.com/worldmap/world-map.gif
I was talking about DIRECT threat to America: as I said, Iran is much more powerful than NK and would represent a GLOBAL threat, although more as a catalyst (remember his role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, for example) than as a shamelessly wacko regime like those of KJI or Khomeini himself.

As for the article in your link, it's true that Pakistan is much closer today to what Saddam's Iraq was ever supposed to be... and Afghanistan an even far bigger mess than Iraq.

NK has no hope of winning an armed conflict.
You don't get what the "victory" for NK would be, do you? If there ever was a renewal of a serious armed conflict, that would already be a victory for NK: remember what I said about being the nation version of terrorists? a whole nation willing to immolate itself as long as they take other millions along with them? the Japanese empire was just foolishly proud ignorant, these ones are as brainwashed but more dangerously mindless.
In the meantime, his people remain in the dark, isolated. But hey, they're alive which seems to be enough for most people. They're used to subjugation so let them stay that way, right? We have no concept of freedom being worth the fight anymore.
That would apply better to Myanmar (Burma) than to the North Korean regime.

china and japan are better suited to deal with a conflict in asia than the US. the world is already a little sick of the states trying to be "world police" and taking a moral high ground when it comes to nuclear proliferation - yet they're the only nation who has ever used them in combat. if north korean is getting too big for its britches, let it's neighbours deal with it. if the US is asked to participate - then fine. but otherwise, they should stay out.

US troops are across the border in S Korea.

so what? it's a problem on the korean peninsula. let korea's neighbours be the ones to fix the problem. china and japan are MORE than capable of handling the issue themselves with the support and blessing of the international community.

the US should put their own house in order before they make demands on others.

You learnt that from the 2000 Bush presidential campaign didn't you?

Do you really think that the USA won't be bothered by allegedly peaceful China becoming an active military power? For Fuck's sake, if the American freak out every time mainland China "just" sails its toys in Taiwan strait... yeah, sure, let's Taiwan and China solve their "own" problem.
THAT is the problem with the average citizen in Europe and America: the world has become too big for them and won't realize that their little nook of the world is part of a bigger whole with interests in millions of little nooks around the world.

i give up. you're not listening.

Neither are you.

dude, i KNOW the US is going to interfere and play world police and take it upon themselves to take care of the situation. they've done it for decades.

i'm saying they SHOULDN'T. they're in a category 5 economic shitstorm that isn't even remotely close to being straightened out. they have a debt and deficit that's skyrocketing out of control with no foreseeable way to pay it down.

they should let china and japan deal with their neighbour. they are MORE than capable. more so than the US.
